Default Which one is right for me?

Do I really want to be as restrictive as Atkins?

I'm 55 and about 10lbs. over-weight. Until app. 2 yrs. ago I was very active in Doubles' Tennis. Now I take care of grandchildren and parents with very little exercise.

My last trip to the Dr. showed that my cholestrol has shot up to 310!!! He said my good chol. was my "saving grace"; whatever that means.

I don't have a real problem with sugar; I can usually take it or leave it. But the Carbs. are my downfall. I love potatoes, macaroni, rice, fried foods, wine....well, you get the picture.

Anyone with ideas about the best plan for me?

Only you can answer that question. Check out the link to the right called "which low carb plan is right for me?" It will give you some insight into the different plans. Welcome to the forum!

Something else to consider is that since you are less than 20 pounds overweight, Dr. Atkins doesn't recommend that you start with induction, but rather the ongoing weight loss (OWL) phase at a higher level of carbs (25-30 grams per day or more if you can lose weight at a higher level), although even with less to lose some people find that a shortened induction period (a week or so) is helpful in detoxing from the carbs and banishing carb cravings so that they can continue.
Which plan is right for you depends on which you think is most workable with your likes and dislikes as well as your current lifestyle.

Even though I didn't discover Atkins until I had reached my goal, I was having trouble maintaining, and still do. The low carb high protein/fat or at least moderate fat satisfies me better so I can get my intake under control. There are lots of plans. Its neat that we have so many from which to choose. Welcome to this forum and good luck to you.
