Angry Canucks get boned again.. No LC Heinz ketchup for Canada...

I just got this email. Names have been changed.

Dear BigJ,

Thank you for contacting Heinz Canada. Unfortunately, there are not plans at this time to introduce the Low Carb Ketchup in Canada. However, I will forward your comments to our comments to our Marketing Department for further consideration.

Regards,
XXXXXXXX
Consumer Services
H.J. Heinz Company of Canada.

Oh, I am pissed. I was really looking forward to a cheap alternative to importing LC sauces from the states, and thought that finally a large company got a clue. Instead we get passed over again.

Like everything else, we seem to get it two years later.
I live right on the border, so I go to the states weekly, and get to bring pack oodles of LC items. I wish everyone else was as lucky. I will keep an eye out for that ketchup.

Do you have the address you wrote too? Maybe an email? If you post it here perhaps we can initiate a writing campaign to Heinz...I too would love to ask them when this might be available in Canada....there is after all strength in numbers and maybe if they get numerous requests they may do something about it?

Worth a try anyways!

yeah I agree - isn't interesting that we have three major low-carb beers here in Canada and the US only has one!

sort of tells you where are priorities lie! I would take the low carb ketchup any day.

Keep us posted if anyone finds it! I don't know if I can bring myself to spend another $8.00 for a bottle of Keto ketchup....don't get me wrong.....it's pretty good.....but I really had to suck it up as I lay out a fin, twoonie & a loonie on the counter for a small bottle of ketchup?!!!

I agree. If we all email them maybe they will think again.

I emailed V-8 a while ago about V-8 Splash Light. It's sweetened with Splenda & is pretty low in carbs. I got the same type of response saying they didn't feel there was enough of a market in Canada. Bah. There is always V-8 Splash Regular on the grocery shelves and with the few choices in lower carb drinks the would have a great market.

The problem is unless they are sure they have a market they back off because of limited shelf space. They actually pay grocery stores for premium eye level shelf space. It's called slotting fees. If you don't believe me here's a link to an article about it. Slotting Fees

We shouldn't have to pay premium prices for LC products. I guess we just have to wait until more companies realize that's what comsumers want.

The irony of it all is that they don't even need to pay slotting fees, this kind of stuff is flying off the shelves -- in Canada -- even at premium prices and in hard to find locations.

Consider ALSO making your very specific wants known to the Grocery or Service Managers in your regular stores; they in turn lean on their big distributors who lean on the manufacturers. THEY get listened to and THEN the companies will realize what consumers want...

I've been doing this for some time, in writing, right at the service desk of the grocery store while I'm there picking up other things. A year ago it got pork rinds back on the shelves for the first time in 8 years...

Ditto here - and the idea of talking to store managers is also a good one!

I just sent one too!

Eight dollars is just too much for a small bottle of ketchup. I have a 10 year old who can eat a bottle that size at one sitting - its his favourite vegetable.lol
