Default Champagne or other alcohol on New Years Eve

Anyone having champagne or other alcoholic beverages?

I am planning on having just a small glass or two.

What is the amount that can be handled easily on Atkins?

Is it better to not eat afterwards until it is metabolized?

Exactly how many carbs or carb equivalent?

Most alcohols do have carbs. A small glass of brut champagne shouldn't kill you though. Stay away from champagne punch though that has been mixed with fruit juice or other carby additives.

A few tips to remember while LC
1. Alcohol may effect you a ton more then it has in the past. Drink it slow and watch fo ryour new limit.
2. Drink tons of water as the morning after can be much worse as well
3. Alcohol is turned into keotenes, so you will still show as being in ketosis even if fat is not being burned.
4. The body will use those alcohol keotenes before any other source of energy, so anything eaten at the time will be stored for later use. Don't go drinking on an empty stomach though as that would be a recipe for getting sick. Just have your regular dinner would be my advice.
5. Self control is lowered while drinking. Be sure yu don't get tempted by carby goodies or hors ders while drinking.

The 'clear' liquors are lower carbs (actually don't count as anything on fitday). I make 'Atkins paralyzers'--if paralyzers are your thing...

vodka mixed with a bit of heavy cream and diet coke over ice. Works out to 1 carb per drink and I'm a very cheap drunk now that I'm LCing--4 drinks gets me VERY tipsy

Check out fitday for counts on different drinks.

I am going out tonight and plan on indulging in rum and diet pepsi. I will probably only end up having 1-2 drinks, so it shouldn't affect me too much. But, it's so rare that we have a babysitter for New Years that I figured it was worth it to indulge!

Thanks for the input.

My plan has changed to a glass or two of red wine with my thick steak, with a glass of champagne at midnight.

I am even going to have a small baked sweet potato! But I have it all planned out on fitday.com, so no other temptations...

I will be going on strict induction on Friday for the next two weeks!

This feasting season is over soon!
