Default Please Help...I Cheated...:(

I have not had a black, strong, caffeinated espresso coffee in two years.....I cheated deliberately because I have been up all night with so much work to catch up on...I had my breakfast and three hours later I did the big mistake of having this coffee...Now, I am shaking like a leaf, to the point of having so much problems typing....My heart feels like it will pop right out of my chest.....What can I do now?...I am drinking tons of water.... I feel like I am stoned on something....Should I wait to have lunch so not to case such a big imbalance?....What should I have for lunch that won't mess me up too much?....

Hey, it's nothing serious when it comes to this WOE......you are just having a caffeine reaction. It should get better with lots of water....flush it out!

To tell the truth, I never quit drinking coffee.............

Hope you will feel better soon.........

Alina

The same thing happened to me Julie, and it took a few hours to shake it off. It never happened before I started LCing, but since I had stopped during induction it gave me the trembles.

A strong espresso coffee - after two years of abstinence - makes anybody shaking. Worst if your body already tired. I have never heard any fast anti-dote against caffeine, but usually there is no need: it's effect diminishes in a couple of hours.
Drinking water is a good idea. What to eat? I do not think that there is any food (other than the ones with caffeine, see chocolate) that would mess up with caffeine. EAT something. Anything.
The most important: rest. Give time to your heart to calm down. As soon as you can: SLEEP.

A double espresso isn't a cheat.

Since I got my espresso machine I have been making quite a few soy lattes with double espresso shots

You are on a serious caffine OD though. Thebad part is here in a little bit you are going ot have a major crash down. Get some food on your tummy, that may help, especially if the coffee upset your tummy.

Try to relax as well. Stressing over that fact you may of cheated, or that your body has gone haywire will just get you more aggitated and make the problem worse.

(Next time get a half calf, or decaf. Sometimes you really can't tell the difference. I so full strength in morning, but come evening I know better so I have decaf espresso to use)

Thanks everyone....

I just got back from lunch and I am still shaking....I had a mixed green salad with salmon and a hot tisane....Why do you say this is not a cheat?....I always thought that caffeinated coffee was not permitted.....Can I go back to having my caffeinated espresso in the morning with my breakfast?...I would introduce it back lowly...I hope I could, I miss it so much....

As I recall my atkins book, the caffeine can cause people to have an insulin spike and that spike might lead to cravings. The caffeine itself isn't a cheat, it's the possible results of the spike that might cause cheats.

When I started I went with decaf coffee and tea. (Which is of course LOW caffein, not NO caffein). We buy the beans and grind our own decaf, which is quite good and satisify's my coffee cravings in the morning. I've had the occasional tea or coffee since then and did not suffer cravings. I guess that means I could have my coffee again, but since I don't really miss it that much I'm not going to start back into daily doses.

Regards,
Dan

Default Cheats mean Carbs

for most of us. Caffiene is optional--recommended not to drink it, but I sure wasn't going to give up my cup. And I don't think that's the problem, and I don't see it leading to cravings.

For me.

However, your body accomodates / habituates to a regular level of the drug pretty quickly, which is why you got your butt kicked by a drink that didn't used to bother you at all. A few days easing back into whatever level you want to maintain and you'll be OK.

I am very happy to hear that you are feeling better:-)
In case you are going back to drink your morning espresso, one advice.
If you buy an espresso machine, be careful with the portions. When you fill the coffee holder, the 2-4 lines mean 2-4 cup of coffees, not 2-4 shots of coffees.

I never gave up my one morning espresso. It is interesting, even my husband "addicted to it" - without ever drinking it. Both her mother and I start the day with an espresso, so for him the lingering aroma of the morning coffee is important part of his morning ritual:-))

Galadriell ..... Congratulations on your weight loss....

Thanks for the tip....I want to go back to one cup a day with my breakfast, also because that first cup in the morning took care against having constipation problems.........

I will start slowly....

Default Other remedies

I agree, that morning cup of coffee has a regulatory effect.

I've also noticed something similar with vitamin C--my MD has me taking WAY more, up to 10g/day. The first dose is a glass of water with vitamin C powder dissolved into it. About as effective as the coffee...

Default I buy mine at GNC

They have two kinds, buffered (14.95) and not (9.95). I mix them. The straight kind is so sour you can barely drink it; the buffered kind makes the water taste a little funky. I add just enough straight to make it lemony.

One point--Once you "up" your intake of vitamin C (and go gently; too high too fast = trots) you need to stay there or come down equally slowly. Although water-soluble, your body gets used to a certain level and can give symptoms of scurvy if suddenly withdrawn.

Funny--just like the caffeine.
