Question Russell Stover..?

Hi... this might be a dumb question...

Many of you might have noticed that Russell Stover has put out both Sugar-Free (green packaging) and Low-Carb (orange packaging) varieties of their candies. When comparing the backs of these 2 products, it appears as though the ingredients and nutritional info are pretty much the same. Russell Stover does jack up the price on the Low-Carb candy by almost double...

Is there something I'm missing? Is the sugar-free candy NOT low-carb for some reason?

Marketing.... the ingredients are the same, the only difference I saw when I read labels was some of the erving sizes on the "Low Carb" were smaller....

My husband noticed the same thing, and could not find a difference in the ingredients. He figured they just upped the price of the low carb candies because there's a bigger market for it. When we occasionally buy candy, we go with the SF ones (the mint patties to be specific, I love those things!)

I buy the sf Russell Stover candy a lot, and haven't seen the orange packaged ones. Thanks for the info!

i love the peppermint patties, too! the sugar free ones are what i buy at walmart - 2 for $3 by me.

stay away from those reese's sugar free peanut butter cups though. they gave me the worst gas and had me running to the toilet all night.

I like the RS PB cups better than LC Reeses anyway. The mint patties are the BOMB!
The toffee squares are really good. I don't care for the chewy candies much-like turtles and carmels.

The absolute best I've had yet is the SF Almond Roca. I seriously couldn't tell the difference from the real stuff. They have it at Rite Aid here in Spokane.

I buy boxes of the Russel Stover sf toffee sticks (about $5. I forget what they're called but you get them at Walmart. I also tried a box of RS sf chocolates. They were really good. An excellent gift if you want to give someone chocs who's lcarbing. I've also found that if the ingredients include the sweetener erythritol I can usually eat a larger serving size without any ill effects.

Try the RS Truffles.......they ROCK!! And since they are individually wrapped they are great for portion control.

I'll look for the boxed toffee sticks. I've tried looking for a bag-that was probably the problem! Thanks!

I e-mail Russel Stover's about the "sugar free" vs. "low carb" ingredients and this is how they replied:

"Thank you for your interest in Russell Stover Candies. Our low carb products
contain Maltitol/Splenda exclusively as sweeteners. Our sugar free products
uses a blend which includes Maltitol,Isomalt,Inulin and Erythritol.

The "Net Effective Carbs" includes only those carbs that have a noted effect
on blood glucose level. Maltitol and Fiber have a negligible effect; so they
are subtracted from the total carbohydrates to yield "Net Effective Carbs".

Thanks for the info. I may check out some of the SF ones.
We have plenty of Low Carb choices in our Walgreens. Once they had a box of LC Dark Chocolate. It was fantastic! But now I can't find it anymore. I don't know if they stopped making it or what. Now it is mostly all the flavored ones orange, rasberry, milk, peanut butter etc.
