Thumbs up Sugar Free Cough Medicine

Thought it might be an idea to flag this here, though you may have already come across this:

I'm suffering from an irritating cough at the moment, and decided it was time to get something to soothe it. I had a look at all the cough syrups etc available at my local pharmacist, but they all contained sugar

So, I asked if there was by any chance such a thing as a sugar-free cough syrup - and yes, there is It's called PAVACOL-D and is normally given to diabetics. It's not usually on show on the shelves, but it is something you can ask for

It contains saccharin (which some people try to avoid) and sorbitol - and it does taste revolting but it's certainly helped with my cough

I think 'tunes' are sugar free? Certainly one of the usual cough sweets is. I was given a free sample one in Tescos or somewhere on Saturday and it was quite nice.

Hope your cough soon goes away.

Yes you can get sugar free Tunes. I picked some up at Sainsbury's last weekend. They have been great with my cold. The sweetners are isomalt and sucralose (wow splenda) and the 98 g of carbs per 100g are all polyols, so that is OK, unless you are sensitive to these.

Default Halls

Alerted by this thread - I did notice there were two kinds of "sugar free" Halls cough sweets - no time to explore. But when I get a cold/flu I'll investigate further.

Sorry to hear you are not well Lynda. I had a cold last weekend and was amazed at how much the symptoms were relieved by taking echinacea. I took it in liquid form. It boosts the immune system and whilst I still had the runny nose symptoms my head was clear and not muzzy. I am now a convert!

Also sorry to hear you are not well Lynda... I think I am pretty lucky in that I repell colds and stuff

Anyway Anne I will have to try echinacea in liquid form I keeping forgetting you can get a lot of these things not in tablet form... it would be great if I could get a multi vitamin in liquid form too

thanks for your well wishes I am still dying a week later and just found this thread I will go and get some tomorow as I am sick of being ill If I look at my previous threads I am, always ill, and no it aint down to the Atkins this was happening before atkins, I have been this way since my gastric Bypass in 2000, I just have a very low immune system, so I will definatly give it a try.
Oh I forgot the name of the sugar free medicine when I went to boots and asked for some sugar free stuff they gave me Robitussin for dry tickly coughs it takes nice but I am not sure it has worked though.
Oh and the cherry flavoured fisherman friend are good and the carb count per sweet is the same as the polyop so am I right in thinking they are carb free or very low carb, well they must be cause Ive eaten loads and still managed to loose 3lbs over night
