Default Trouble with custom foods in Fitday

First of all, thanks to everyone who recommended Fitday.com, I'm having a ball checking out my pie charts and so forth, it's a lot of fun for someone like me.
I wondered how everyone handled entering custom foods into Fitday with the carb & fiber count. I wind up not entering the fiber because I only put in the net carbs, otherwise it won't accept it according to its formula.
Anybody know what I mean?

Yes, I've had trouble with the formulas too - telling me there isn't enough calories to what I'm inputting, but I end up fiddling the numbers just a tad, not enough to throw me totally out of wack and it works. This has only happened a couple of time, everything else is okay and I have probably 30 - 40 custom foods entered.

SO did you just fiddle with the Calories? or the fiber etc?

Its not letting me enter in the "3g" carbs in a Keto Bar...any suggestions?

Saweetie, it won't let you enter it because the calorie count includes ALL the carbs listed, not just the net carbs. If I were to eat those I think I'd just add it in my head and not worry about entering it into FitDay.

I've only had trouble with a couple of foods and one of those I hadn't read the label correctly. Normally everything comes out right. I just entered Chocolate Carb Countdown this evening and YEAH!! Ya gotta love this stuff--only 2 net carbs per cup! (Yeah, yeah, I know--don't drink it often! )

I've had the same problem. I just decrease the calories to make it work. Then I just remember if I eat a bar, I have to add in x calories. Kind of annoying, but at least it gets into the carb and protein count!

If you don't think the sugar alcohols stall you....enter the total (not net) carbs in the carb section and then put the number of sugar alcohol carbs in the fiber section. That way you can just subtract "fiber" at the end of the day as usual.

Hi. Usually enter that carb grams and fiber separetely, but when I check the food the tab to see how many carbs I have left I do the math.

If I want to enter a new recipe, I enter the ingredients and amounts on the next day and then I copy the grams info from the Calories Eaten Today chart to the New Custom Food.

Hope this info helps you!

Good Luck

You are supposed to enter Total Carbs, not Net Carbs in the carbs box and Fiber in the Fiber box. The formula they use is:

(fat x 9) + ((carbs - fiber) x 4) + (protein x 4) + (alcohol x 7)

Since sugar alcohols and glycerine have neither 0, 4 nor 7 kcal/g, anything with sugar alcohols or glycerine will throw it off...No matter what you list the polyols and glycerine as. That said, what I do is enter the serving size [with bars] as 0.01 servings and then divide all the numbers on the label by 100, subtracting the Polyols and Glycerine from the carb count, and placing them under "Alcohols." I leave the Fiber in the carb count and list the fiber under "Fiber." If the serving size is small enough it will accept it, because it is only off by less than 1 calorie.

I think that this is because some products have "hidden carbs" that are not listed on the nutrition info label.

That's why I always use the hidden carbs calculator to work out the ACTUAL amount of carbs in a product before putting it in fitday
