Wink Hi Everyone, having trouble losing weight taking Avandia.

I've tried to lose weight so many times and Lo carb is working for me. I'm not really losing the weight as fast as I want to ,but at least some inches are coming off. Even though things are moving slow it IS amazing how much better you can feel.
I'm a diabetic and I'm on Glucophage and Avandia. Avandia really slows weight loss. My Dr. won't change anything yet. I'm hoping he will in the future when he sees how good my blood sugar levels improved.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome. I don't have diabetes - yet, and I'm hoping that by changing my way of eating and my lifestyle I can avoid it.

You mentioned that it is very slow losing weight. I'm a slow loser, but I really don't care. The other benefits of this way of eating like the increased energy, healthier hair, nails and complexion, are enough to keep me going. That and the fact that I really, really do not want diabetes.

Losing slowly is okay with me and I hope you decide it's okay with you, too. The low carb way should help normalize your blood sugar as well as your blood pressure and cholesterol.

Hang in there. I think you will find the destination well worth the trip.

Default Tell your Doctor

Sometimes you just have to take your health into your own hands.
Tell your Doctor that you do not feel comfortable taking Avandia.

Are you taking the maximum dosage of Glucophage? If not, tell him to increase the Glucophage and think about adding Actos. I agree, the Avandia is not conducive to weight loss. There are many other medications available and if your doctor doesn't explain why it is better in your case to continue with the Avandia and is not willing to change, perhaps you should see another doctor.

Hopefully in a short time, you will be able to get off most, if not all, your meds.
At one time I was taking 4 Glucophage, 2 Glucotrol, and 2 Actos. After a short period on this WOE I was able to get off all but 1 Glucotrol. My BG's are much more in control now than when I was taking that whole list and I hope to get off the last pill soon.

Talk to your doctor. Hopefully he will listen.

Take care,
Johnie

Hi! Thanks for the support JohnP and Shortstuff. If it wasn't for this forum I would be discouraged about losing slow. I plan on talking to my Dr. about taking me off Avandia.
Feeling better and improving my health are the main things, losing weight will be the extra bonus of Low Carbing.

Have a Happy Thansgiving to everyone on the Forum!!!!
