Default Equal Perfect Pleasures Candy

I bought a box of Equal Perfect Pleasures. The box had both Caramel and Chocolate candies in it. It cost about 7 bucks for 1.5 lbs at BJ's Club.

The are hard candies with a little cream inside. The caramel isnt as good as chewy caramel, but the flavor is good. The chocolate is ok, too.

The cream inside isn't that tasty. Seems a little bitter. But it only lasts a few seconds, then you can get on with disolving the rest of the hard candy.

So, IMO, they aren't perfect. But they aren't the opposite of a pleasure, either. At least, I'll keep telling myself that until the remaining 1.4 lbs are gone. Guess they couldn't call them "Imperfect Better-Than-Nothings."

Sjkling, Someone gave me a fruit flavored hard candy. It was good. Not sure of the brand, though. It was round, not football shaped.

Are these made with Equal? Isn't that aspartame? I was under the assumption that that was not recommended on Atkins?

Becki, I just checked the Perfect Pleasures box. It is made by Equal, but, surprisingly, the product uses Sugar Alcohol (12g), not Aspartame. Evidently, Sugar Alcohol is OK on Atkins. I didn't hear about Aspartame being not recommended under Atkins.

Maybe someone knows more about any limits on the use of Aspartame and Sugar Alcohol on the Atkins plan.

(added later)

NOTE - I looked further on the box and it does contain some aspartame. It does have the warning: Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine.

Default About Aspartame

I did a little searching about aspartame. It looks like the official Atkins position is against using it. I've seen opinions on both sides. Here is a thread about Why is Aspartame So Bad?

In case you missed my correction, I looked further on the box and Perfect Pleasures does contain some aspartame. It does have the warning: Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine.
