Default How Many People are taking a Potassium Supplement?

Hi everyone!

I am wondering how many people out there are taking a Potassium Supplement? I've been having lots of cramps in my calves (and even one in my toe) and have been really low energy since I started this WOE. I have a friend LC'ing too and she feels great with lots of energy.

I heard somewhere that I may need potassium, but don't know anything about it. Anyone got any info on it??

Thanks;

Melanie

I have always read that potasium is good for energy but before you do add any potasium supplements, check if u have any prescriptions or check in fitday if you are close to your required daily fda amount. Ask your doctor.

Like for example, my bc pills helps with my potasium so I need not bother take an additional supplement. Here's a link about Potasium: http://members.tripod.com/~charles_W/arthritis11.html

I take two potassium a day and two cal/mag/zinc I also try to eat at least some spinach daily, usually in my salad. As soon as I slack on the potassium, I get crazy charley horses! Ouch ouch ouch ouch...

I've taken they faithfully since jan/03 but now on Mantenance, I'm eating more foods wiht Potassium, so I've cut way back to 3-4 a week and I'm fine.
Everyone doing Atkins should be taking some, however,
check with your drugist,Specially if you are on any blood pressure meds.

Good Luck, Kathy

Thumbs up

Thanks Everyone!

I am so glad I realized it was potassium I needed. My charlie horses were wicked! Also couldn't figure out why everyone had so much energy and not me!

Thanks for the responses so far. I will keep checking back as I understand potassium is a very serious supplement to take.

I take potassium along with magnesium and calcium for my (serious) muscle cramps. As long as I take these I have no problems.

I've been taking it for months now as well as cal/mag/zinc. I had some trouble with leg cramps, but now none. I have so much energy I wish I could give some it away sometimes.

Potassium and Magnesium fixed my twitches, cramps, and charlie horses when exercising. I highly recommend, especially if you exercise a lot.

I take potassium, without it I am so tired and I will get heart palpitations. For leg cramps I take mag/calcium. I have never finished a bottle of vitamins before in my life, until now. It makes a difference when you are aware of what supplements you really need.

I too take potassium, magnesium and calcium (as well as other supplements as per my naturopath). Had pretty serious muscle cramps in back and legs which have since subsided. I learned something new here today. I had no idea the potassium was the reason for the renewed energy. Blessings, Karen

I take potassium, calcium, magnesium, and a whole bunch of other supplements. If I don't--if I forget for more than a day or two--I get real tired and draggy. Which reminds me....

I generally take a couple hundred milligrams of potassium a day.

However, I'm wondering, have any of you checked your potassium intake on FitDay? I've noticed that for the most part my potassium levels are pretty good just from my food (1500-1800 mg/day). Is a supplement necessary when I can get this much in my diet?

I also take calcium and a multi-vitamin WITH iron because otherwise I don't get quite enough iron.
