I saw a recipe for fries using turnips also. Has anybody tried? I'm wondering if you can actually deep fry them in a pan?

Yes the turnip fries are awesome and I think you could deep fry them, don't see why not, they are firm enough, go for it. Although you won't get the herbs maybe?

Rutabegas are slightly higher in carbs then turnips. While my carb counte rlists them as equal, fitday states 1/4 cup rutabegas = 1/2 cup turnips.

I prefer the zucchini hashbrowns. I have used turnips as french fry subs, and in stews or with roasts

I took some Turnip and Rutabega and sliced them up and deep fried them. I was hoping for something like potato chips but they really didn't crisp up. They were still good but they were more like a fried potato than a chip. THe rutabegas are a lot like turnips but they taste sweeter.

For those that have not seen a turnip, it is a root vegetable and it is purple on top and white on the bottom.
