Default Vancouver island: organic free-range meat direct from the farmer?

Does anyone on the island buy chemical free, free range meat? Can you recommend a good place to look? Know any farmers?

We usually buy 1/2 cow at a time and it's really easy to find good meat here on the prairies, but i'm afraid that once we've moved to the island, it's going to be a bit more challenging to find clean, economical meat.

Default chemical free beef

Here in Duncan, actually a bit south at Koksilah, there is a butcher shop that is owned by a farm family who farm near Chemainus. Confused yet? VBG
They used to sell directly from the farm but they have only recently opened the new meat market. My daughter bought a roast there and said it was tender and delicious. I can't remember the name right now but if it is in the area you're interested in let me know and I'll get more info. There are also serveral people who sell range chickens as well as a lot of organic gardeners who sell at the local farm market in town on Saturdays. Hope this helps.

Yes, this is exactly the kind of info i need!! Does the farmer's market run thru the winter months too?

I tried looking up Koksilah on mapquest but it's not on their maps. Chemainus i'm familiar with (quiet little place with lots of pretty murals =). Duncan's actually one of the areas that we're looking at moving to, so i'm expecially glad that you answered my post.

Koksilah is just south of Duncan. A bit of a strip area on a frontage road parallel to the hiway. Heading South turn left at the second set of lights past the bridge and wind your way around to the street closest to the hiway. It's a bit of a muddle but you should find it okay. If you get to the Old Farm Market you're past the Meat Market.

Ah, directions! Thank you!

I wonder if there's a directory of organic/free range meat producers/retailers on the Island.... hmmmmmm that would be SO cool.
