Default Splenda Measurments in Recipes

I'm a little confused by the amounts of Splenda called for in recipes. It always seems like such a huge amount, i.e. 1/2 cup of Splenda used in a recipe that makes 11 muffins. Are the amounts shown supposed to be sugar equivelants?

Thanks,
Vicki

Hi Vicki,

Yes, half a cup of granular Splenda is equivalent to half a cup of sugar.

Just be aware that if your Splenda comes in the little packets, that the Splenda in them is more concentrated than the granular, "loose" Splenda. Each little packet contains the equivalent of 2 teaspoons sugar, so a recipe calling for ½ a cup of sugar or Splenda would require 12 packets.

Incidentally don't forget to count the carbs. 1 cup of Splenda (or 24 little packets) contains 24 carbs.

HTH

Rosebud

Thanx so much Rosebud! I just now looked up the total carbs for a cup of Splenda, and thought I'd come here to compare it someone else's measurement...(just to be sure)...and here it is. Same as what I got.

I love this forum!

Thanks Rosebud. I didn't realize that loose granular Splenda was less concentrated than the little packets. I knew I'd get an answer here!

Thanks again,
Vicki
