Default Here is reason enough to go on the Atkins Plan

Hi folks,

Last September I had blood work done to check for Lyme disease. What they discovered was pretty startling. My total cholesterol was 328 (should be under 200) and my triglycerides (fat in the blood) were 827 (should be under 150). I started the Atkins WOL on May 28 and I'm sure that the levels were no better than they were last Sept.

I had the bloodwork redone on Tuesday. The lab just called and the results are shocking. My total cholesterol has dropped to 188 and my triglyceride level dropped to 65.

Even if I hadn't lost any weight on this plan, these results are enough to show how much healthier we are all getting by avoiding sugar and carbohydrates. I absolutely cannot believe these results. I eat eggs every darn day as well as a ton of red meat. According to the FDA I should be killing myself instead of being healthier than I've been in years.

It's too bad that poor Dr. Atkins was looked upon as a quack until recently. This man was a genius and should be looked upon as another Jonus Salk.

Have your lipid levels checked folks. It'll show you that this is working, even if your weight loss has stalled.

I hope you all are having a great day.

Yes Ian, I eat butter every morning on an OsoLo muffin and mayo on chicken and tuna salad a couple of times a week.

Thumbs up

thanks Bob for that information. My fiance, who has borderline 220 total cholesterol is starting Atkins this week, and to be honest I was a bit concerned even despite reading DANDR. You've set my mind at ease (but we will also be monitoring his levels as well) And, congratulations on you amazing improvements.

That's super! I have not had any blood work done yet but my blood pressure is now lower with NO meds than it was WITH meds before Atkins.

Thank you for sharing Bob!
this is so good to hear. We are constantly bombarded by the negative stories about this WOE, and no matter how good we feel, some doubt always creep in.. Hearing your results makes me feel much better.

Thanks again!

I don't have any starting numbers...but after 8 months on Atkins

Cholesterol: 175
LDL: 122
VLDL: 19
HDL: 33*
Triglycerides: 96
Blood Sugar: 84

Serum Calcium, Sodium, and Potassium: All Well Within the Normal Range

*My HDL is a few points below normal...But, considering that my Diet (most of the time) before Atkins was:

Grain: 46.7% of Calories
Fructose: 47.1% of Calories
Skim Dairy: 6.2% of Calories

my HDL was probably nonexistent. And, a diet of Grains (Wheat, Rice, and Corn) and Sugars (Fructose and Lactose) could not have been good for my Triglycerides and Blood Sugar.

Bob,

Your post is so timely for me. I went to my dr. a couple of days ago to see about getting off some medication because I was afraid it was causing my stall. After a very stern lecture about Atkins and it's harmful side effects, the Dr. ordered a full blood work-up instead of just a thyroid check that we were planning to do. I have been sitting nervously by the phone waiting for him to drop the bomb, expecting the numbers to be horrid.

After reading your post - I just believe I'll relax and have my normal Atkins foods for the weekend.

I told a friend of mine that my Dr. suspected that people who followed Atkins would end up with higher cancer rates, she retorted, "so what - have a glass of wine, the news says that will fix anything"

So much hype - Kudo's to you for publishing your good news!

Congrats, Bob! That is exactly why I'm low-carbing, too. And while my lipid results haven't been quite as dramatic as yours, they have also been encouraging.
