Question Confused about wine...

So okay.. doesnt wine have lots of sugars in it??

Im confused when i looked up one glass of white wine it came up as .85 carbs or something...

But what about sugar? Can we drink wine? Maybe i'm naive to the wine issue...

Any answers would be appreciative!!!

Wine is low in carbs. The drier, the better. Also low in carbs: Vodka, Gin. Supposedly, you have to burn off the alcohol consumed before your body burns off fat; so it can slow things down. Beware of getting hammered more quickly, dehydration and major hangovers with this WOE. Also, alcohol lowers your inhibitions, which may lead some to eat things they are not supposed to.

Heidi

As already said, dry wine is much better than sweet wine and 1 g carbs is for the driest and smallish glass. Often you can have around 3 g carbs in many glasses of wine.

Spirits do not have any carbs, so with sugar free mixers may be a better option.

However, as already said, the calories from the alcohol get burnt off before your body fat, so to much alcohol tends to stall people. You will have to see how this relates to you. Do make sure you drink plenty of water to counteract the effects of the alcohol on your body.

I've read several articles about the carbs in wine. Even though wine does have some carbs, fairly - this is what I read

When making wine you use yeast to firment your wine. During this process the yeast turns the sugar into alcohol. So in turn you have sugar alcohol which don't affect us on atkins. (most of us). I'd stay a way from really sweet sweet wines (like dessert wines) some of those they add sugar after firmentation to make it sweeter.

But yes can get really get messed up drinking wine quick. Be careful.

The only thing I don't understand about alcohol is how it comes to be okay where other things aren't... wine being made from grapes, rum being made from cane sugar, and so on leaves me very suspicious of how it can miraculously become low carb in its fermented form?

Not that I'm complaining, you understand! Just would love a more in depth explanation than "because it does"?!

Captain Morgan is high in carbs. The spiced rums can range from 1-7 carbs per oz. Go for plain rum or better yet vodka

Not quite. Sugar alcohols are made in labs and ofund in some foods. It is the actual molecule from the sugar that is changed, and has nothing to do with alcoholic drinks. The carbs in cocktails still need to be counted.
