could I count on you guys for business or what,

I don't live in the toronto area...but wouldn't it be so much easier if there was one great place that carried all the LC products instead of hunting and searching and dragging your butt all over town. I know if there was a place in the Okanagan I'd be a very loyal customer...especially if prices weren't outrageous

just to let you know - i saw in a san francisco or san diego paper? that there is a new low carb franchise starting up - word is the franchises are selling super quick. maybe ya'll (my texas accent coming thru) will get one of the new franchises - it is a store dedicated to only low carb products.

dont worry it is getting better. every day down here i am seeing new lc products. every food business with a brain is getting into lc. we are finally main stream whether they like it or not. bout time.

www.lowcarbfooddepot.ca is one in Toronto and I know I have seen one listed from B.C. on another low carb web site. I understand that they are having a problem with importing products because of the french/english requirements on the products. If you do a google search for Canadian low carb you will probably find other sites.

personally I'd rather a real store than online. I've seen the online places but I'm going to hold off on using them. I'd prefer not to pay shipping charges and such. I know there are places in Vancouver but I don't get out there much. I know there has been some progress getting stuff up in Canada but it seems so slow (silly french/english labels). At least some of the grocery stores like Safeway and IGA are getting some Atkins stuff. I might break down and order stuff online if my search for real stores doesn't pan out.

Just a bit of advice Allikins. I have gone so far as to make the call to order products online from atkins and the shipping charges are quite high. I wanted 2 cases of protein drinks which is only 8 cans. The total was $40 US but they charge a $30 shipping fee to send anything to Canada. Netrition charges a $25 shipping fee. I felt with those kind of shipping costs it just wasn't worth it.

I order all my lc stuff from Low Carb Deot in Toronto, im talking a store that stocks everything, she has alot of stuff but theres so much in the states that we will never see and im pissed right off.

I hate our bullsh-t laws here, also I see it as a good financial opertunity as evryone is gettting into it, nows the time.

3 of us got together and placed an order at lowcarbfood depot to save on shipping (not we are in the Yukon) but I was disapointed with the sizes of the products. I bought 2 boxes of Keto Spaghetti, tastes realy good, but a box is something like $8 that's just nuts and the box is really small. A bag of tortilla chips $7 I mean it's just a bag of chips!!! they are good but WOW!!! we are getting ripped off. The LC tortallias are great but $5 a pack not too too bad they are very small. THe Candies are $2.50 those are a good price.


The local health food store has Atkins products The muffin Mix is $8.95 That's NUTS!! and the Bake mix was over $18. The only reasonable item I found was the syrup for $5.22

Sure I want more LC in Canada but I also don't want to pay throught the nose!

When I saw the first Canadian low carb prices, I almost fell off my chair - I could not believe people would spend $8 for a bread mix, and over $10 for cereal.

What we need is a Canadian producer - our soy and gluten products are superior in Canada and we could produce excellent low priced tortilla wraps and other products if someone actually took the plunge.

The only Canadian product I see out there is Ross Chocolates and we all know how well they sell, here and in the US.

Lets pressure CND manufacturers and when they produce, lets BUY Canadian!!

Amen to that. I'd love a local LC product store, but only if the prices are good. I'm not paying 6 bucks for a bottle of LC barbecue sauce when I can get tomato paste for 39 cents and make my own. I guess we need manufacturers before we need retailers. *shrug*

True enough. We could probably make stuff for cheaper. Ok guys, get out that stock pot and lets start cooking. One of us is bound to come up with some great edible LC stuff we can sell across canada...ok...maybe not! Why is this stuff so expensive anyways?

I guess I just don't get it?? I've done Atkins since Jan, reached my goal,in Aug. and never ever bought any overpriced,overated phoney foods or mixes.

With all the "energy" spent on trying to find that stuff, it would be wisely used in the kitchen, with a few cheap ingredients

The pancakes for one, 17.99 for a small bag not even a pound! It takes me one minute, to mix my own and in the pan! They are nice a fluffy and they taste great. Might cost me 20 cents to make 4-5 4" ones.

As for the bread, I just have'nt bother to make any,but there is tons of recipes for it.
I'm able to enjoy Silver hills, one slice 2-3 times a week with no problem, it has no flour, just grains and cost me 1.59 at the overload store or 3.89 at most grocery stores.

The protien shakes, you can buy Designer Whey most often on sale at London drugs for 14.99, as apposed to Atkins at 28.00 here.

And the huge bar ripe off, and all most people get out of them is a stall?? Yet some are willing to pay for it, LOL

I can't comment to much on the pasta products, other thatof course they are high$$$ and most people have said they are gross.

I guess I don't get it cause, I have been so satisfied just eating real food, but that can sometimes take a little more time, but for me, I'll take that time and keep the cash, LOL

One day I'd like to just take the whole day and play with some recipes, I think it would be pretty easy to master the Tortilla's again with just a few pennies worth of ingredients from the bulk store

I'd love to know HOW to make this low-carb food.. I mean almost all the recipes for bread/muffins/pancakes you name it... call for the Atkins Bake mix.. which was a whopping 24.99 a CAN here in Montreal.. ya gotta be flippin' kidding!!! I don't buy it either. I eat real food.. but I'd really like an alternative once in a while. I bought one endulge bar (the one that tastes like a turtle chocolate).. it was really good.. but 2.99!!! Well, maybe one as a treat for special occasions.. like Christmas.

So... where do you buy the fancy ingredients to make these low carb foods? I've never even seen soy flour (??) in my life, and the health food stores here cost an arm and a leg for the littlest thing...

Isn't the whole idea to learn a new way of eating? I'm with you, Kathy....all these frankenstein replacements are just one big rip off. Reminds me of when low-fat, no sugar, etc stuff started appearing on grocery shelves and all of us chronic dieters came running. For years I convinced myself that plastic cheese and vinegary salad dressings tasted good...and what was I learning? Not a darn thing!

One of the best things about low carb is being able to eat real food again.

Shaerat - Try Papillon in the old Pointe Claire shopping center.. bulk store with LOADS of low carb "natural" products - vital wheat gluten, almond meal, soy flour, soy protein isolate, flax seed meal, etc etc. Found it with my sister when I was vacationing in Pincourt in July.

Oh, and you can make your OWN Atkins-type bake mix. We did it and it works fine!

Faux Atkins Bake Mix


1 cup soy flour
2 cups soy protein isolate
2 tablespoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons Splenda
Sift together then store and use as you would Dr. A's. It's much cheaper
and things come out about the same.
