Unhappy Chocolate Cravings!!!!

Hi everyone!

I'm wanting a bit of advice on the sweet side of things. Strange though it may seem, I didn't really have a sweet tooth until now! I've been doing Atkins for nearly 4 weeks and I'm craving chocolate so much!!

I was wondering if anyone knows of any chocolate we can eat or anything that tastes (and feels if poss!) remotely like chocolate! I'm gagging here!! Getting scared I might ruin all my hard work with a moment of weakness.

If anyone has any answers it would be HUGELY appriciated!

Hi Humminbird,

Are you taking any supplements? I found L-Glutamine to be enormously helpful in preventing cravings for chocolate and other sweet things. 500 mg ½ hour before meals, as suggested by Dr Atkins.

It's just a matter of breaking the cycle. Some folk find they cope by eating artificially sweetened chocolate, but IMNSHO that is just perpetuating the cycle. The best time to eat the AS chocs are when you no longer NEED them, but just feel like a tasy snack. Make sense?

Cheers.

Rosebud

Hi Rosebud!

The only supplements I'm taking are multi-vits with extra iron. I haven't tried anything else. I have been getting lots of info on different supplements for different things though and think I should give them a try. I'll add L-Glutamine to my list!!!

I think, eventually, if some one shakes me, I might rattle!!!

Hi hummin'!
when the choccy cravings come i buy bars of "green and blacks" 70% cocoa solids chocolate - it has just 45.5g carbs per 100g - because its bitter sweet and lovely and strong you'll get a great chocolate kick out of the smallest piece and will certainly satisfy your chocolate craving....in fact they do it in 20g bars - works out around 8g per bar! - green and blacks is sold all over the place, i get it from sainsbury's (i've bought the 20g bars from holland and barrett)...it's delicious!
hope this helps!
best regards
ax

Thanks Adrix!!

I'll definitely give that a try too!!! I heard diabetic chocolate could be eaten in moderation...due to lots of it keeping you rooted to the toilet!!!

Thanks again for the advice! x

Hummin'!
there is absolutely NO NEED to eat horrid diabetic chocolate!! (unless you're a diabetic!) - green and blacks is organic, pure and DELICIOUS! - in fact a small square a day could be good for you!

Hi Kelly,

Like you after a month on this woe I got ridiculously bad cravings for chocolate. In the end my boyf got me a bag of thorntons diabetic chocs (just to shut me up). I thought this was fabulous when I got them, and they boxed selection has some excellent chocs..taste just like normal chocs.

The only prob is that now I am craving sweet things all the time, and I am finding it hard to stop at 1 or 2 chocs i.e. im close to getting back to my old pre low carb habits!! I went last night and gave a lot of the chocs to my housemates so that they are not around me anymore!

So be warned if you do go for the choc option you could trigger a huge choc craving!

same here. I'm pms'ing like it's going out of style. So instead of going ona a chock binge, I got a box of endulge bars. It really hit the spot! those things are amazing. However, I can't stop with just one. I'm at 3 bars today!

That's the problem... I've found that feeding my cravings actually makes them WORSE. If I want some sf chocolate, I have to make sure there's only ONE in the house.

I think that's why they aren't considered suitable for induction. You haven't, at that point been given your body time to get stable and get the cravings under control.

p.s. after three bars today, I'm suprised you're at the computer instead of in the bathroom!!

what's funny is, the first time i had 2 bars i ran to the bathroom several times! It doesn't happen anymore..isn't that strange? Where does the sugar alcohol go?!
Also, magnesium use to make me run run run to the toilet several times a day, now I pray for that even with 1000 mgs a day.

I tasted Thorntons diabetic toffee today for the first time and it wasn't bad at all. Not so sweet as the 'real' stuff but nice all the same.

There are all kinds of Atkins chocolates, and other LC, SF candies, the Atkins have 2 carbs in them so if you are 4 weeks along I think you can spare it, once in awhile LOL
