I don't even know what they are!!! But doesn't the word "corn" rather imply they're off the menu?

Hi

Never heard of them so did a quick search and found

" Cornichon is a French word, but is in a little more common usage among English speakers. Cornichons are pickled gherkin cucumbers. "

My carb book has Gherkins down as 9g carbs / 36g weight, so l guess there in that region.

Steve

Eeeeeuuuuuwwww!!!

Ahem. Heh. I'm just saying...!

Sorry Carbcutter... looks like you're on your own there! I'd guess they're not great as there'll be sugar added to the vinegar for starters...

Hi Carbcutter

I'd never heard of cornichons either, but I've heard of gherkins! Mind you I hate pickled anything, so have never had them.

On the Sainsbury's site they say that
Pickled gherkins - midget are 5.5 g carbs per 100 g - all of which is sugar.
Pickled gherkins in sour or ordinary vinegar are 2.5 g carbs
Pickled gherkins in sweet vinegar are 5.5 g carbs

So just make sure that you do not have ones in sweet vinegar. I would imagine that 100g of gherkins is quite a lot so you could easily add them to your diet.

Default Yum yum

I love pickled gherkins and spent quite a while in Sainsbury's working through their range until I found one that did not list sugar in the contents. I had tried Waitrose and Budgens in vain as all theirs had sugar and too high carbs. The Sainsbury's without sugar is only 2.5 g carbs for 100 gms - I was very happy to find them. You don't need much to add delicious flavour I think - particularly with cold meat like ham or salami. But I also eat them on their own.

Happy hunting - hope you enjoy.
