This thread has me so confused.. I weigh 130 lbs and wear a TIGHT size 10..in pants , shorts..
How can people that weight about 20lbs more then me wear the same size???
I've seen people posting that weigh in the 160 range & wear a 14..I just don't get it.
Not that size matters..it's how you look & FEEL..but still ..this has me wondering what is the deal?

candylover, it's really not so strange; I am 5'6" and wore a size 10 easily when I weighed 152 lbs. The taller a person is the more they can weigh and still wear a smaller size than a shorter person of the same weight. On top of that, I am truly large-boned, as well as muscular. Since muscle and bone weigh more than fat, and are more compact, at any given weight I will be thinner than someone of my height with a smaller bone structure and less muscle. I don't think I expressed that very well, but it's late and I need to go to bed! Anyway, weight alone is so meaningless in describing ourselves; it doesn't begin to tell anything.

candyluver:
hi, I am 5"3 and 140 and I wear an 8, but 9 junior is what really fits me the best, however I have been excercising at least 3 times a week but usually more, I do step aerobics and weights, a muscle sculpting class and I bicycle everywhere. This has really toned my hamstrings, thighs and butt. However, I have not been able to excercise for almost 3 wks now because I broke my toe and although I still weigh 140 the pants I was wearing are now tight!! So for me at least it is muscle/toning that has enabled me to wear and 8/9.

cheers,
judi

OK...I think I get it. It's all about muscle vs/ fat.

Judi, I'm 5'3" also. When I started this WOE about 4 mo's ago I weighed 140 too! But..I wasn't toned..and I have a small frame.
In other words..I was *fluffy* Still though I have only lost 10 lbs I do look alot leaner. I need more excercise. You look fantastic! Keep up the good work.

Alot of it is personal preference on how you want clothes to fit. I can squeeze into a size 4-6 dress, or my size 5 jeans. Breathing isn't that great of an option though. I feel more comfortable in my size 10 shorts. With shirts I still buy Large, even though they come down below my rump. I am very self concious about my breasts, as well as the c-section pooch, so I won't wear anything tight on top. I really hate tight necks too, so turtle necks or t-shirts that strangle are out. My clothes being so baggy probably make me look 20 pounds heavier, but until I lose a little more, get toned, and maybe a boob job, I am not going out in anything form fitting.

What stinks too is when your a petite, they assume if your a size 8 or below you must be skinny. All the clothes are very form fitting and show off the tummy and bulges.

Besides muscle and fat, people carry weight differently. Some people carry it all in their upper stomach, lower stomach, legs, or butt. So if someone might be top heavy but have small legs and lower stomach and get into a smaller size jean than one would think.

Just a thought - might have to do with your having 50% body fat. Check out the body fat of those who are able to fit into clothes that are in a smaller size than what you wear. I used to think the same thing also. After I started exercising I really saw what a different the muscle makes!
