Default The $150.00 loaf of bread

Hi Karen and anyone else reading this. I am about to make Final Bread. I just came back from buying the bread machine and all the ingredients. I could find everything except the oat flour. I have something called Spelt flour instead. Hope this works, and how will that change the carb count? Kind of stressed out because I really have never made anything like this before. If anyone has any tips send them on. Also I plan on making the whole thing in the breadmaker.....Hmmmm. slawrie P.S. It will take me awhile to figure out the breadmaker so if you have any advice please write. Thx. Suzanne

Default Stop That Bread Machine!!!

Suzanne,

Sorry, but Spelt flour isn't low-carb. It's 76 grams a cup! (Oat flour is 48.) If you can't find oat flour, grind up some plain old rolled oats in your food processor or blender.

This is only my opinion, so you can take it for what it's worth. I don't like uni-purpose appliances like bread machines. I would rather spend money on something that I can use for many other things. So, a stand mixer would be my first choice for an appliance. It kneads bread and does a host of other things.

There is another recipe in the Readers Recipes section called Gabi's World Famous Bread that is made in a bread machine. Recipes for a bread machine are designed specifically for it and using a conventional bread recipe may not work.

If you have a coffee grinder, you can grind rolled oats or groats to a powder in it. It's the same as oat flour.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the tip on grinding oat flour. I have rolled oats in my pantry. I'm kind of afraid to go into the kitchen and see what is happening with the bread....Anything could be going on for all I know. Talk about stress....I'm sure its going to turn out like cement or blow-up.....so I'm not too worried about the wrong flour. Will let you know. Too fun.......Thx. for the tip though, and Karen I will try the other recipe that is made for a bread making machine......Bye slawrie

Bread machines are the best. I use mine at least 2x each week and make everything from pizza dough to sweet roll dough in it. Hmmmmm.. can you add carbs to your diet by just SMELLING fresh baked bread or rolls?

Best of luck with the new machine

It looks good, it smells good, BUT it tastes kind of funny. Hmmmm. Stilll, I had one thin slice with an egg on top for dinner. Tomorrow I'll have another with no sugar jam....Can't eat the outside crust part. Were talking cement.....but there's that other recipe that is made for bread machines. Another day, another recipe. lol.......Bye Suzanne

Default bread machine ready mix

Have you tried ready-made lc bread machine mixes?

I just tried CarbSense Harvest Wheat (with zero net carbs). It's pretty darn good.

I've NEVER had a loaf of bread turn out in the machine... I gave up, and do it the old fashioned way. BTW, Itried the Gabis bread recipe, and it was AWFUL.... I found a recipe called Gluten Bread on a website.. I think it was lowcarbluxury.com and it was ok.

CarbSense Harvest Wheat Bread Mix actually has 3 net grams of carbohydrate per serving. My mistake. Their standard bake mix has zero grams of carbs.
