Unhappy No more LC Hershey's for me...

Yesterday I decided to try the Hershey's SF candy after having already tried the Atkins PB cups about a week ago with no problems. Major mistake !!! I've been up half the night with terrible gas after having a pretty bad case of diarrhea earlier in the evening. And all this after only one serving. The Atkins brand was sweetened with maltitol and the Hershey's with lactitol. Apparently my body hates the latter. Guess I'll pitch the rest and just buy Atkins when I feel like indulging.

Same thing here. I ate them, and had to leave a party early, because of the pains in my stomach and I was in the bathroom all night. Never Again!

If I eat more than 3 pieces of Hershey's SF, it's off to the races...no probs with maltitol, however.

By the way, Deeniec, try the Russell Stover Peanut Butter Cups...they are MUCH, MUCH, better than the Atkin's PB cups (and waaaay cheaper)...net 1 carb for 4 pieces. Russell Stover also makes a GREAT Toffee Square (tastes just like a Heath/Skor bar)...net 1 carb for 3 squares.

Just be careful...maltitol also can send you running if you eat too much of it!

Everything in moderation!

The Hersheys ones do give me gas if I over indulge, but so far no pain with it, thank goodness. I personally don't care for the Russell Stover PB cups, but the rest of their stuff is really good. I LOVE their mint patties..... yum.

Actually, I have to limit ALL the goodies. Since I cut down to a serving once a week as a treat, I've started losing faster. They also seemed to be a trigger to the old binge behavior that got me here in the first place. The "effects" ARE pretty helpful in enforcing portion control!!!

Talking Thanks for the tip...

Thanks for the tip about the Russell Stover alternative. I'll have to try them. And I do have to say I agree with everybody about using great caution with any treats. After my little splurge, I gained 2 lbs. which took me 3 days to get rid of. I'm still loving this WOE/WOL though-I've gone from 180 to 167 in 35 days, as well as two pant sizes (must be the Tae Bo and Firm tapes). A few days after that, I made a great broccoli cheese casserole (very rich and creamy), which was a much better way to treat myself, because there was only 6.07 carbs per serving. So I guess you could consider it a "legal" treat.

I should have started this 10 years ago! I still can't believe I can actually enjoy food and lose weight at the same time! Happy low carbing everybody!

I am getting to the point where I can enjoy some sweets again. All this info was very helpful, thanks to all. I had some of the Hershey's pb cups and suffered what most of you had described here and never even associated it with the chocolate.

D'oh!

I just didn't know this stuff could do that to you.

No more lactitol for me!

P.s. I love this place. I have converted a few people at work and have them to talk to, but it's nice to find thousands of you...

I have to agree with all of that. I can limit myself to one Carbolite bar, once or twice a week, or maybe a Russell Stover pecan thingy
.
I'm in a stall and it is either because I'm eating WAY TOO many SF jelly bellies and/or not treadmilling. And those jelly bellies gas me up, too.
I'm just programmed to live with it...I must have had a problem with wheat, cause I was always suffering, before WOE.

Ooof! I bought some SF Reese's PB cups made with lacitol - the serving size is 5 cups - I had two today as a little snack, and they sent me right to the bathroom. Potent stuff!

(But hey, to solve occasional LC constipation, a few chocolates work wonders for me )

I also can not seem to tolerate the lactitol...no problems with manitol, sorbital etc...except if eaten in large quantities

The Hersheys tastes great, but as all the above posters, 2 pieces made me ill and bloated.
I would sooner skip these.
