Cool How to get more fat into my diet?

I'm pretty sure someone else would've asked this question. (forgive me for asking again

I've noticed that my entries in Fitday usually comes down to equal amount of protein and fat. From what I've read, you need more fat than protein on Atkins. I've added salad dressing, cream cheese and butter to my diet, but I can never seem to add more fat to my diet. I'm not a big fan of beef or pork or nuts, usually eat lean chicken or fish. I've noticed I add more fat if I eat sugar-free chocolate, but they give me horrible gas and I do not want to consume them everyday.

Could anyone suggest some gas-free ideas on how I can add more fat to my diet?

Hi Rose!

To add more fat to your diet you can easily do that with a little heavy cream. You could put it in soups or sauces, or if you are done with induction you could put a little over some berries and it is delicious! Or make whipped cream and add some sweetener and some cocoa powder to make a chocolate mousse.

A few eggs for breakfast can help beef it up too or deviled eggs with added mayo. (mayo another fat source btw!)

Full fat cheese (just make sure to stay under 4oz) is another fat source, you could make those delicious cheese chips listed on the snack section of the recipe part of this website!

Good luck looks like you're doing great already!

Hi Rose7!
you could try using Flaxoil.. this is a really good fat since it is full of all the omega oils, and is known to stimulate your metabolism. I use it on salads, in protein shakes and on steamed veggies... this would be a good oil to incorporate.

Do you eat alot of fish? I also eat alot of canned herring.. they come in hotsauce, and also have alot of omega oils.. ( i know alot of people would say OH GROSS, but I really like them).

also, what about nuts? If you are on induction nuts may not be a good option right now though.

Also, use cream for your tea or coffee if you drink it, and whipped cream.....

hope this gives you some ideas....
also, how bout starting a journal, and then we can give you more specific feedback if you provide some of your menus in it, plus we can come around and visit you.

Cheers,
Jodi

You didn't mention eggs. If you're an eggy person, here's how they served them in Crete for breakfast when I was there a long time ago. I eat this at least twice a week. Everyone that I've cooked them for raves about them:
Take small frying pan and a lid to fit.
Start to fry 3 eggs in 2 tablespoons of hot olive oil, or 3 tablespoons if you like.
Squeeze half a big juicy lemon over the eggs and cover tightly. The juice hits the oil and 'steams' the eggs until they are done to your taste (firm or runny)

serve the eggs with the lemon / oil sauce poured over them plus black pepper.

Plain boring eggs will never be the same again!

Wow, I appreciate all your replies!

I think I will take a little bit of everyone's advice and see where I get.
Whipped cream sounds like a great idea! I will also try finding some Flaxoil.
And yes, I AM an eggy person! I completely forgot about egg salads. I will definitely try that lemon/oil sauce recipe.
Thanks to everyone for the great ideas
(My fat intake is up to 60% today. Who would've thought I'd be happy to see that number go up?

Make a "shake" (we call it a "spider", not sure about Nth America) with heavy cream and diet soda! Yummmm! It is bliss with Vanilla Diet Coke, but unfortunately that contains aspartame.

Velvet - we call those "floats" here, if they're normally made with ice cream. Root beer is the usual favorite.

Rose, you can use a little extra salad dressing or butter on your veggies, or try fattier cuts of meat. Chicken or turkey legs, for example. Peanut butter is another fave of mine (just make sure there's no hydrogenated fats added.)

On days when I feel like I haven't had enough fat. I'll melt a small dish of butter in the nuker. I'll dip (more like soak and drown!) each piece of my dinner vegetable in it (usually broccoli). It's kind of like a "dipping lobster in butter" effect-- it's good and get's the job done!

Cooking with heavy creams and cream cheese is a good one too. For me I keep a rule of thumb to have some kind of fat with every meal (blue cheese dressing, butter, oil, etc.)
