Exclamation Feel a major cheat coming on...

It's 96 degrees and I'm screaming for ice cream....

No, not the sugar-free 4 oz. version you make in the little ziplock baggie;

No, not the teeny serving of the Atkins Endulge you have to mortage your house to buy;

Not even the do-it-yourself LC jobbie in the ice cream maker because like a doofus you forgot to freeze the container in advance and who's going to wait 12 hours until it's cold enough?

I want ice cream and I want it NOW.

Preferably extra rich dark chocolate, but I'll settle for chocolate chip.
Size=extra large. In a chocolate dipped cone, please.

Thank you for listening.

Oh, I'm sorry, pepsi, I wasn't trying to incite anyone else to crave. And thanks for the link, Rosebud.

Well, here's what happened. I went to the store, fully intending to allow temptation to take its course. The bakery had a tray with samples of a cake that they're carrying. Teeny little pieces. I told myself, "Hey, go for it," and ate one. Guess what??? It was so intensely sweet that it was nauseating. I discovered I can't deal with sugar anymore--the taste was downright cloying! I ended up buying some greens for a salad, and when I got home ate a large salad with tons of olive oil. It was super delicious and, as Goldilocks says, "just right."

This WOE really does re-educate our taste buds, doesn't it?

OK - the first bite of that ice cream sounds good. Let's picture the last. You know, the one where you were full 5 or 6 bites ago but you keep eating it until it is done? The one were the ice cream is now liquid, the cone is a mushy mess, and you realize it wasn't worth it?

RoseTattoo - So glad the crisis is over and that you passed with flying colors !! I think there are probably lots of things we think we miss - but in reality, I'm sure they're not really as good as we remember them being .

Thanks, Shadow, you're always so supportive.

It was just a passing fancy....I don't crave it anymore. (Keeps fingers crossed that this is actually the truth).

Good for you, Rose!

Have you considered using L-Glutamine for sweet cravings? It really helped me enormously when I was almost overcome with cravings. 500-1000 mg ½ hour before meals.

Just a thought in case there's a next time.

Another Rose.

Thanks for the advice, Rosebud. I do have some L-Glutamine on hand--I used it during Induction. And I just KNOW there'll be a next time.

Oddly, the craving wasn't for sugar--it was for something cold and rich. And I'm happy to report that a salad with olive oil did the trick. (Not your typical cold and rich, I know! )

In one of the threads I read that if you cheat do it immediately after eating a balanced meal...such as CALP.... So I did that twice this weekend with cheesecake and didn't feel an insulin spike at all...and haven't noticed an increase in the scales.... In FIT for Life they suggest taking a day off from the diet program to shock your system...they said it helps.... Anyway something to think about....I guess the next few days will be the test to see if the scales stay the same...i'll just increase my exercise...

Thanks for the tip...but I've had my comeuppance...apparently just THINKING about the ice cream made me gain weight back. So I must keep my fantasies as pure as my behavior from now on.

I'm afraid that if I gave into a cheat, that would be the end of the WOE for me.

Well, you certainly wouldn't want that !

But that kind of motivation is good. It's been almost a year since I had a high-carb food. Yes, I've eaten more than I should have of low-carb stuff, but it's never led me to abandon the plan, either. And with the results I've had from this WOE, I NEVER want to go back to any other!
