Default Bad Breath? Ughh

I know the atkins book says that when you produce the ketones, that your breath will have a different "scent" but how bad is that scent?

I can just taste it in my mouth....I can imagine how it smells!

I have some chewing gum that is low carb, and i use the mouthwash in the morning because even brushing my teeth 3 times a day does not help the "taste" of the breath.

Is this normal? and if so, how does everyone else control it?

Water, water, water, and more water. That's what 'cured' it for me. I still have a faint taste in my mouth, but no one is complaining about my breath like before the WATER!

I'll echo other posters on the water recommendation. Simple dilution of the ketone concentration is the reason it works.

Another remedy is parsley oil capsules, commonly sold under the brand name Breath Assure. Parsley is a natural deodorizer.

Last, do some exercises that encourage you to breathe through your nose. These are generally known as yogic or pranic breathing exercises. This won't decrease the ketone load, but will keep you and others from being exposed so much. A search on the internet should bring up web sites with instructions.

Beware of "low carb" gum. You are only supposed to have 3 artificial sweetners a day during induction and they either have that in the ingredients OR sugar alcohols that can stall weightloss.

Try listerine strips if you want....

Water really is the natural way to delute ketones and also really helps you flush your weight away!

thanks for the input. I just started the gum since i've noticed the taste. No one has complained about it yet, but I can just "taste" it.

Also, water...I already drink over 100 oz of water a day. Had 96 oz already today and the day is only half over.
