Angry Day 10, I've Lost 1 Pound (Grrr)

My carb count (as an example) for the last four days is:
Monday 9.5
Sunday 13
Saturday 7
Friday 11

This is accurate information. I don't lead a sedentary lifestyle,
my food/carb measurements are exact (I'm a scientist),
WHAT GIVES?

(I know...I've seen the stuff toward the back of the book about
metabolically resistant people...but why does it have to
be ME? To add to that, I LOVE fruits and vegetables, so I'm
feel utterly restricted by this diet...even bored.)

Things I can see as an answer: 1. I take an SSRI daily,
2. I'm a vegetarian normally, so all my protein is coming
from fish, eggs, tofu, and cheese 3. I have an ileostomy
(no colon) 4. I'm borderline menopause
5. Until I spotted it in the book a few days ago, I had at least
some nutrasweet in my coffee in the morning, and some
aspartame soda in the afternoon.

To reiterate, I count every carb, including the ones in the
nutrasweet packets, and in the Walden Farms dressing that
labels itself as "0 g". (They can legally say this if
it's less than 0.5 g...therefore I assign 1 Tbsp a figure
of 0.5.)

Does any of the above sound like something I can DO something
about?

Thanks in advance,
tw

(P.S. - Ignore the stats on my email header. I started at 141,
and am now at 140. Want to get to 115.)

your not eating enough carbs 20 grms a day you are not doing yourself any favours having so few!!
Dr atkins did the induction at a minium and does state after induction to start re-introducing more. and if you start gaining reduce them. If you start with so few how can you reduce them!!

good luck

Default Thanks, but Why Can't I Lose Weight?

Thanks for your concern....but my real question is why I'm having
so much trouble, given the strictness I'm exercizing in this case?
(See previous post.)

depends to what you are eatin if you are not eating enough (that means all foods allowed on lc and your carbs )your body goes into starvation mode, and keeps hold of your fat for survival, so are you eating enough?

you lost 50% of the weight you want to lose in 10 days
Congratulations thats terrific.

Use all your carbs and have more veggies and berries that are in season. Most of us menapausal gals would love to have your starting weight so focus on toning not the scales.

You must know your bodyfat% being a techie is that reasonable?

Thumbs up

i recommend a couple of days counting calories as well as carbs. i did and realized that my slow weight loss was because i was eating around 2,800 calories a day. who can lose weight with as much food at that!?!?! certainly not i! so i now know what the problem was...i keep calories around 2000 a day and the weight loss has sped up again. good luck!

Default Thanks, Everyone

Gee, if I have to count calories, too, I might make up my own
combo of low carb/lo cal. After all, there's no reason to think
that when it comes to dieting that "one size fits all."

I'm thinking a combination of less than 60 carbs daily in
combination with less than or equal to 1500 calories per day is doable
for me.

(For all those who were concerned I'm not eating enough, the
reason my daily carb counts were so low is because I planned
more food than I could possibly eat. I've never really
eaten that much to begin with.)

(For the person who asked about body fat %, it can be truthfully
said that I never back away from any lifting...my upper body and
back are still pretty strong. The only time in my life my back has
bothered me is on this diet...and I'm about to turn 48 on Thurs.)

All you guys are great...this is a wonderful support system.

You're only 5 lbs from goal! Weight loss is slower as you get closer to your ideal weight! It may take you a couple of months to lose the last 5 - don't get discouraged, just be diligent and it'll come off. It's not like you still need to lose major weight and the scales not budging! Sorry if I don't sound to sympathetic (truly I understand the frustration!) but.....hmmm if I only had 5 lbs. to lose!

Plan: adkins
Stats: 157.5/133.0/135 Female 5 5
BF:
Progress: 109%
Location: Atlanta
Default I am just as discouraged

I have been on this thing for about 3 + weeks

I lost 4lbs and then 1 gained one back.
then I lost 2, but now I have gained them back. My carbs are
not above 20gm, but I do admit I am not doing strict induction.
I am also keeping my cals are 1500 a day.

yesterday I had :
adkins shake
some nuts (1/2 serving)
ceaser salad with chicken for lunch
a hot dog with cheese for dinner
water

today I had:
eggs and 2 turkey sausages for breakfast.
(ok I was bad and had a shake for lunch) and then for snake
lecarb .

dinner was hot dogs again , but before I ate dinner I was bad
and stepped on teh scale.

I did the shakes when I was losing so I dont think it was that.

Also, I dislike most veggies, which makes things very hard. I will
eat lettuce so at least salad is ok.

since I am "off induction" I have had an occasion piece of melon
here and there.

Still I keep my carbs 20 or less. I do exercise, though mostly in the
evening.

I am just so frustrated. I have gained 2lbs in 2 days . It is not even
that time of month!!!!! I dont eat breads, desserts, pasta, and all that
other junk I use to eat, yet I feel like I am going nowhere. I am going
to give this a few more weeks, but may end up giving up.

What about a carb bing day and then induction again. would that
jump start me?

SO I understand where you are at.. not sure why are are not losing
like others.

Sandy

You changed your stats after you started this thread-o well.

If your back hurts with no stress cause and you have not been getting in enough fiber carbs you are probably constipated.

60 carbs-is that ketogenic diet-I think its higher then most Atkins CCL.

Default You have no way of understanding this, but

I am an ileostomate. (Since you're going to refer to
previous info such as stats. I stated this in my first post.)
There is absolutely NO WAY for me to be constipated...I
don't have a colon (large intestine.) All of my "output"
is basically liquidy. For an ileostomate, diarrhea is a looming
possibility that can be dangerous.

That is actually why Atkins is a treat for me. My output has
descreased so much that the amount of time I can wear
my ostomy appliance (a plastic bag worn attached to the
side with adhesive) without it falling off has dramatically increased.
(I should explain that my output comes out through an
opening in my side, called a "stoma." The operation was performed
25 years ago to save me from bleeding to death from ulcerative
colitis.)

All that being said, my stats have changed as of this AM to
2 pounds lost. I'll just keep on going, step by step, I guess.
