This has been only one day test. It was just to show the difference between the 2 sources of protein. The 200 grams came from about 7 packs of Pstarami, they only give 17.5 grams of fat and 1050 calories. I have eaten some vegetables and nuts this same day.

I think you've got it exactly right. Protein usually comes along with a fair amount of fat, which is (for me) what keeps me from overdoing it. As I said in another thread, I think Atkins was counting on both the appetite-suppression effect of ketosis, as well as the satiety effect of fat, to "automatically" limit his patients' protein intake.

IMO if one is consistently losing on Atkins, then there's no need to worry about the protein. However, it should be looked at as one potential cause of a stall.

I was just curious about this.. I really dont know much about it.. was just using a calculation from a website on LowCarbing.. thanks for sharing all the opinions! i was impressed to see how many responses there were to this thread..

I had read on that site that 58% of protein we eat is converted to carbs, and that our brains need 45 grams of carbs a day on top of what our bodies need (weight x .36).. im no doctor so i thought id ask some of you 'experts'.. im feeling alright, sleepy more often than id like to be, but ive lost quite a bit for being on this a month (more than average i believe).. i suspect im in the '3/4 week stall' that i read so much about.. not concerned about it, but thought i should know if im getting too little protein

my average (including today which was a no dairy day and for which dinner has not been plugged in yet) for the last month::

calories: 1663
Fat: 131 74%
Sat: 53 30%
Poly: 13 7%
Mono: 29 16%
Carbs: 21 4%
Fiber: 5 0%
Protein: 90 22%

my average for the last 2 weeks:

calories 1587
Fat: 120 1076 73%
Sat: 47 422 29%
Poly: 9 82 6%
Mono: 26 231 16%
Carbs: 19 53 4%
Fiber: 6 0 0%
Protein: 84 335 23%

I know my fiber is low.. but for the past week my average was over 8.. today it is 14 so far.. for a few days im cutting out dairy products.. i think i eat way too much which of course is bringing my fat % up and my % of protein down slightly..

not bad overall though.. what do you think?

Are you eating your veggies?
Carbs: 21 4%
Fiber: 5 0%

That just seems like a really low fiber and total carb count if you are eating veggies as much as you should. Do you have any problems in the bathroom area? Constapation or diareah from too little fiber can cause bloating and weight retention.

that was my average for before i added more fiber.. im really working on it.. adding it slowly (rather than going from 5 to 35 in one day! YIKES!).. yesterday i got in 16 g.. obviously i was getting very little fiber early on.. ive recently added flax meal to my menu everyday and at least a garden salad (if not spinach and broccoli).. i also love zucchini and eat that

very nice of you to look at my stats and comment.. thanks for the concern
