Default An Ethical Question...

Hey, I was thinking of buying shares in Krispy Kreme! Or Tim Hortons. But now I'm not so sure.

It's a question of ethics, really… is it right for someone who truly believes in low carb to go and invest in companies that promote obesity and premature death? Or is it everyone for themselves - is it proper to reap a profit from the uncontrolled impulses of others who are going to continue to stuff themselves with junk (and generate massive profits for sharheolders) regardless of what any of us say or do?

I dunno, I think that's right up there with investing in tobacco - junk food is an addiction after all.

Just wondering.

Yeah but Tim Horton's makes good coffee so you could rationalize that way - you support good coffee.

Default Cool!

Ah, great minds think alike.

Now that's a GREAT rationalization... I'm going to call my broker right now!

(And run across the street for a latte...)

Hmmm. As much as I enjoy it, I know coffee is bad too.

You could invest in a Tim Hortons and if money was made, give a portion back to an organization that does not make money from the addictions of others and helps people to lead a better life. Then, karma-cally, you'd be OK.

Default Cognitive Dissonance Anyone?

Good idea Karen! I'll chew on that some more...

Now I've been giving it some more thought. If you applied the precedent of people suing Big Tobacco and winning, what if every diabetic junkfoodaholic decided to join a class action suit against the Dealers (MickeyDs, Wendys, Arbys, KFC, Orville Redenbacker, etc etc), wouldn't that just bring the house down?

Can you imagine what the ban on advertising junk would do to the economy? And how about the graphic warnings they'd have to put on the packaging LOL!

I can see it now...
"This is your bod" (picture of an Adonis)
"This is your bod on junk" (picture of someone on life support with both legs amputated)

I'd be very surprised if forums like these weren't shut down by the FBI in the very near future for preaching sedition!
