Default Exercise and why you aren't losing weight

Wow, this is a great read folks. If you have been exercising and are not losing weight, losing slowly, or worse, gaining weight, this may explain why.

Oprah's Mind and Body Web Site

OG

p.s. my wife read this to me the other night and I thought, "wow, what great info! I should post it on the LC site." Then I forgot. The other post here on exercising made me remember to ask her for the link. I don't personally make a habit of reading Oprah's site.......not that there is anything wrong with that!

Thanks OG, that is good info for people who are starting an exercise program and are frustrated with results.

Problem is, for people like me, I started a good program two months before I re-started Atkins and now my weight loss has slowed tremendously (haven't lost any pounds in a few weeks). BUT, I am shrinking in inches so just take the scale with a grain of salt.

I am the type of person who needs to work out A LOT, so I have gone and re-joined my old gym, while keeping my Curves membership, too. Hopefully when I throw some heavy-duty kickboxing classes into the mix with some Ab-labs I will break down my body's will to hold out on me!

HMMM, maybe I will even start teaching kickboxing again. I was too embarrassed to teach anymore after I gained almost 40 pounds last year.

I was just bitchen (pardon my French ) that I put on between 3 to 5 pounds and can't figure out why. We (the whole family) just started going to the Y three weeks ago. Even though I know this is the reason it is still a hard pill to swallow. Now at least I only have 1 and 1/2 pounds to get back to where I was. And yes the tape measure did move down 1/2 inch everywhere. But that didn't make the scale moving up any easier! Well maybe it did

SEE! This is EXACTLY the reason I am avoiding exercise. I would rather lose fat and worry about building muscle later...besides, I have all the muscle I need. I am buffed-out NOW!

JUST KIDDING! GOTCHA! Like anyone believed I was "buffed-out"! LOL!

Exercise...does the body and mind good!
I was just doing some of my patented "fork-lifts" several hours ago...and plan on more of em in the morning! SWEET!!!!!!!!
Best to all;
Jake

Same here, I lost a lb because for the last few days I was not able to do anything. To my shock this morning a lb was gone. Not sure if that was the reason behind it though.

Thanks for posting this Oprahghost. I started exercising more intensly last week and have gained nearly 3 pounds even though according to my calculations I have been creating a 'calorie deficit'. Ugh!!! So Frustrating!!! BUT, I do like the leaner and muscle look I am starting to acheive.

Post Hello

Hi

I have been LCing for 24 days now. I go to the gym 5 times a week. Last week I was irritated that I didn't lose more weight. After I had some good advice off this forum and follow it the weight has been dropping off me. I was not eating enough because I was burning off an average 700 cals a day. What I have been doing this week is snack more. Before the gym I will have a shake and after the gym I will have something imediate, even if it's a hunk of cheese. Now this week alone I have lost another 6 pounds and it is only Thursday.

If you don't eat enough your body will go into starvation mode, which is exactly what mine was doing. (although no one can starve on this diet!)

I am a gym freak now because my heart rate has came down a little bit already and only after 3 weeks at the gym. I also have so much more stamina there. I do push myself - to the limit sometimes but I have not injured myself.

It is great to hear that so many people are exercising!! (including me)

Keep up the good work

Jenny

Good Article! I have been LC for about 11 days. And then on the 6 th day started doing 40 situps and 40 push ups and on the 8th day have actually gained maybe a pound. I'm still on induction and not very discouraged but now this actually helps with what is going on on me.

Don't, whatever you do, give up exercise because of a small gain!!

This summer I took up cycling and within the first week, gained 6 pounds. That six pounds has stayed with me but there is no difference in the fit of my clothing and trust me, I like things on the tight side, so I'd notice. What has happened though is that my legs have undergone a remarkable re-shaping and in fact, I had a gentleman tell me recently that he admired my "muscular legs". This is a first for me!!

I have stayed the same weight but gone down 3 sizes!!! I guess that's what we are trying to do is loose size... right? My bodyfat to lean mass improved so drastically. My trainer has explained I lost 20 lbs of fat, and replaced it with 18 pounds of muscle. Which, btw, LOOKS GREAT! Muscle rocks! It looks sexy, it feels good, and it's so healthy.

I am starting to care less and less what the scale says. Bodyfat percentage is such a better gauge of heath than the scale!

1 pound of Fat takes up 18 times more space than 1 pound of muscle I heard.

Talking exercise and weight gain

You gals and guys are so great! I really needed someone to talk to about this because I am so into getting my health in check and losing weight! I have insulin resistance and PCOS and need to for a longer life. I know it is early, but since I purchased my treadmill (a good one) and started the 2 hrs per day on it last week, I have already had one of my daycare moms (clients) tell me my face and arms are thinner! My clothes are fitting way looser and I can tell my hips have slimmed! I love this exercise thing and will never quit, even tho the scale is playing with my mind! I am hooked! I feel awesome!
