Default Weight Tables

Since it has been awhile since I have looked at a weight table.e.g What your weight should be for your height, etc Is there a table posted somewhere?? I guess I should get a true goal weight. I just picked out a weight that I thought was close so I may be off some??
Thanks for you help in advance. I do enjoy this site. !!

One rule of thumb is that you allow 100 pounds for the first 5 feet of height, then add 5 pounds per inch of height over 5 feet.

So 5"6" = 30 + (6 x 5) = 130

And that's the lower end of the range for the height which could be 130-160 for 5'6" - that depends on size of the bone structure, muscle mass & muscle development/athleticism.

Here are links to some published ones:

Suggest using the Body Mass Index (BMI) measure. Go here:

Post problems with BMI

Hey all.. just wanted to point out something. The BMI is only geared for your "regular joe/jane" types, not athletes. Since muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space, it's actually harder to meet BMI goals. Take ME for example. I'm a 35yr old male. I'm 5'9" and 210lbs. I've been as high as 230 (oof) but as I recall, my optimal weight was around 190lbs. The BMI says I should be like 160lbs! OMG! I'd be a twig-boy if that were the case (and have 2% bodyfat). The same rule applies to that 100lbs for the first 5' theory. (Hey, I want to be a model but come on.)

So just account for the BMI goof and you should be ok.

Good luck.
