Pcos
Hi,
I am new to the boards....I was diagnosed with PCOS at 18 years old. I had high testosterone levels and adrenal? levels. I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis a couple years later.
The ob/gyn that diagnosed me, just wanted to know if I wanted clomid. Being 18 and not married the answer was no, and on I went with a prescription of Provera to help regulate my periods. Well that made me a witch, so I stopped taking them. I then got married and was able to conceive naturally. Like someone else posted, now that I look back, each time I conceived I was excercising, active and eating well. My Mom would warn me when I got thin to 'not get pregnant'.
Well the periods got very heavy, very unpredictable and I also got endometriosis so had a hysterectomy but kept the ovaries.
No one has addressed my diagnosis of PCOS all these years until I finally went to my family doctor for help to lose weight. I am not sure if that is why she recommended Atkins. I am to have my thyroid levels checked again to make sure they are ok.
Can someone explain to me the comorbidity of PCOS and weight gain? Is there something I should be doing? I am very overweight, but succeeding at Atkins--12 lb weight loss so far (2 weeks).
Thanks!
