Question Hot flashes and Atkins

Greetings,

I was on HRT primarily for my awful hot flashes and night sweats. I hated the effects of HRT and researched and tried natural alternatives and finally found a vitamin regiment that totally knocked the hot flashes and night sweats. Now I am on Atkins and my flashes and night sweats are back although not nearly so many and not as strong. Actually, I think it would be bearable as long as it does not get worse and prevent a good nights sleep. Is this a result of Atkins or is there another culprit.

Thank ya for listening.

Ms(not as fat as I was)Monty

The "hot flashes" are actually caused by ketosis. It's your body burning fat that is making you hot. I'm 28 and I get hot flashes and night sweats frequently on Atkins. I just try to look at it as a good thing because it means that I'm getting skinny.

I quit HRT and started Atkins at the same time. My hot flashes came back and got so intense I started HRT again. Now I wonder whether it was the diet that caused my hot flashes to be so bad. (The problem with making two changes at the same time. Very unscientific.) Since I am on maintenance and do not intend to lose any more weight, maybe I should try to go off HRT again.

Go through the Atkins web site. He has a section on how to quit HRT and instead use soy, certain nutrients and so on to go the natural way. There might be more information in one of his books like vitanutrients or Atkins for Life. Didn't he also have a book about not aging?

Default Vitamin E

Try adding 800 IU of Vitamin E per day...take one in the morning and one before bed. It worked for me (but takes about 2 weeks to kick in).

It was 800 IU Vit e and 1500 mg. vit c that eliminated my hot flashes. I think it took less that a week for me to notice a major difference.
