Default Are diet drinks REALLY okay?

Like diet pepsi and diet mountain dew. They both have 0 carbs, as I discovered today.

But I'm too nervous to try either! Every time I see something with 0 carbs, I always think it's too good to be true.

people say you should stay away from drinks with aspartame and caffiene in them. try diet rite instead (caffiene free made with splenda... its really good)
those diet drinks might stall your weight loss but i think its different for everyone.

Default I'm experimenting, myself

Used to drink a lot of mildly sweetened lemonade in the summer; can't do that on this plan. Trying the diet drinks myself; looking for the cheaper ones that don't use aspartame (or at least, I can't find it in the ingredients list). Mixed results so far--I find that drinking the sweet taste can make me want more, whereas if I just wait a minute, the after-meal urge for something sweet goes away.

OTOH, after all the water, sometimes I just want TASTE. So I'm also buying club soda, Pelegrina, other flavored bubbly waters.

I have found that fixing my drinks with ice somehow sets off hunger pangs. Asked on the list about this and no-one else said it happened to them, but I do way better if I take the drinks straight up, cold from the fridge but no ice. Beats me.

I think it is fine, i dirink diet coke all the time. What is important is to make sure you dont drink soda (or anything else) as a replacement to water. Have a diet soda with meals, or as a snack, but drink plenty of water as well. (I think that is why they say no sodas - because once people think sodas are ok (non fattening) they drink too many of them - and as we all know excess is very bad for the diet ;-) ))))

Anyone ever tried Talking Rain? Its made with splenda and comes in a BUNCH of different flavors! I love the stuff! Reminds me alot of Clearly Canadian drinks. I found mine at Albertsons...
