Just a question for all the Canadians.....r u all still eating beef? If not then how are u managing on Atkins???????

Faith .. I am from the UK, me and my family haven't eaten beef now for about 10 years... I just rather not take any chances, I find I don't mess it at all, I eat lots of fish/chicken/turkey and lamb.

I eat mainly buffalo and elk since my parents raise them and slauter one for me and my bro but I still eat Beef out in restraunts and stuff. what about u?

The buffalo ranch here closed recently. I wish it was still around. Buffalo meat is much lower in fat and higher in nutrician then regular beef.

There is alot of hunting here. We don't hunt, there is no way we could fit a whole deer in the frezer. I'm hoping to mooch of my SO's father when he goes hunting next time. We also get pheasant from him occasionaly which is a nice break from chicken.

I'm definitely still enjoying beef. BSE is found only in the brain, spinal cord and nerves; it's not in the muscle meat at all. So steaks and roasts are fine. And ground beef from my local butcher, where I can watch them grind it right in front of me. I'll probably stay away from processed beef products though ... things like hotdogs, bologna etc etc.

Good idea in general. I love the description of what "mecanically separated" is...

...products are made from tissue that has been mechanically removed from scraps and already stripped carcasses - the materials are fed through a sieve, to separate and discard most of the bone. They may also contain skin, bone, bone marrow, and the kidneys and sex glands of immature birds.

Products processed in this way, include poultry nuggets, patties, frankfurters, and luncheon meats.

I have a mad cow question.
I have heard that organic pasture fed beef is safe from Mad Cow disease. But, isn't that how cows are fed in Europe?

We've been eating pasture fed beef, bison, and chicken.
