Question Vitamins!

Hi..I'm new here but I have been on the atkins diet now for a month. I have lost 21 lbs so far. I have about 60 more to go.

Anyway...I have read and read and got so confused about the whole vitamin issue that my head was (and still is) spinning.

Today, I was at Sams club and I happened to run into the vitamin section. GNC was next on my list to go..but I found these vitamins called : Daily pack complete (iron free)

I have no idea if they are good enough or not. Here is the supplement facts (which are foreign to me..lol)

Vit. A 50000 I.U (25% as beta carotene)
Vit. C 360mg
Vit. D 400 I.U
Vit. K 25 mcg.
Thiamin (vit. B1) 16.5mg.
Riboflavin (vit. B2) 11.9
Niacin 70mg.
Vit. B6 7mg.
Biotin 40mg.
Pantothenic Acid 10mg.
Calcium 762mg.
Phosphorus 109mg.
Iodine 150mcg.
Magnesium 100mg.
Zinc 15mg.
Selenium 20mg.
Copper 2mg.
Manganese 2.5 mg.
Chromium 25mg.
Molybdenum 25mg.
Chloride 36.3mg.
Potassium 40mg.
Nickle 5mcg.
Tin 10mg.
Silicon 2mg.
Vandadium 10mg.
Boron 150mcg.

Whew! Anyway, before I open the box can anybody tell me if this is ok or not? OR if I should add some more stuff? I also bought some Omega 3 fish oil. It says 1000mg. Natural Concentrate Dietary Supplements with Omega-3 fatty acids.

Sorry this is so long...and I REALLY appreciate any suggestions or advice! Thank you Sooooo much in advance!!

My opinion on the vitamin thing is use what works. I take a multi-vit, potassium, b complex, e, magnesium and those seem to work for me. Have you read the Dummies Guide to Vitamins? Good book - tells what the vitamins do and when to take them (some will counter the affects of others if taken at the same time).

Looks good to me. I add an extra calcium/magnesium pill to my multi vitamin, but that is just me.

Vitamin C...no one gets enough C on a low-carb diet since fruit is forbidden or limited.

I compared my multi to Atkins basic #3 and found mine was not strong enough, so I take 3 of them a day to meet Atkins recommendations. I also take potassium, calcium and magnesium. These help with leg cramps. I am post menapausal so I take 1600 mg of calcium and 800 mg of magnesium. Minerals are important to replace because the water we drink flushes out the minerals.

Hope this helps,
Barb

Does the manufacture of the kelp tablets have a website? or phone number for customer support? Give them an email or a call - they should be more than happy to help you out. Make sure you get and fiber information too!

Default Hey Becca

I didn't see folic acid on there...very important!!!
You should be taking between 400mcg a day or 800 mcg's a day depending on which brand you get.

sia

p.s. you can buy the folic acid separatley and keep your vitamins that you already purchased

Hi Becca, you know everyone has different ideas about vitamins and some people need more than others. If your not deficent in anything I would just take the ones you bought and the fish oil. I have spent plenty on vitamins and saw no difference in myself except for my multi and my fish. I get the same fish ones as you and am happy with them.

Wink more questions!

Hi ....thanks everyone! I really appreciate all of your help!

Amber I have a question for you about the fish oil. The smell is overwhelming. I'm going to have to take them out of the bottle, the night before, so I will be able to take them..lol.

Anyway..I'm just worry that the smell of them will seep out of my pours and make me smell like these? I've also heard of people burping these up leaving a fishy taste...eeeks...sorry so graphical!

Another question for Sia..is what is folic acid?

Does anybody take L-carnitine or CoQ10?

What is kelp tablets?

Sorry for asking more questions..lol..but believe me..I'm full of them...

Thanks again.....I'm so grateful for all of you!!!!!!

Default Folic Acid

Folic acid drives down homocystein levels.
High homocystein levels plug up arteries.

A combination of vitamin B-6 and folic acid drives these levels down.

A daily dose of folic acid should be 800mcg's (micrograms...not milligrams)

Hope this helped

Default Kelp

Kelp is from seaweedie stuff...Good for your thyroid, if its a bit slow.....Sometimes thats what slows people down on diets...their metabolism is a bit slow, cause of their thyroid. So the iodine in kelp is good for that. Or seafood too, I guess.
