Question Soda/Pop/Cola/Carbonated Beverages

I drink Diet Rite, made with Splenda, when I am not drinking seltzer water. Splenda has carbs, due to the bulkeners in it, but there is no need for these in soda, so Diet Rite has no carbs.

My question is: Do I need to limit Diet Rite or is it a free food?
My concern is that I am afraid anything that tastes sweet causes an insulin release, and can slow weight loss.

RSVP Thanks all!

I know I have read in other places that soda's & the artificial sweeteners in them can cause stalls.
Myself, I stopped almost all soda's a year ago when I looked at the label and discovered I did not know about 1/3 of the ingredients I was putting in my body.

Good luck!

I had a stall too from drinking the diet sodas.

So I only drink water now, sometimes I have a glass of crystal light.

I recently quit diet pop...but sucessfully lost 40 pounds in 4 months drinking several diet Mt dew and diet Sunkist per day. Between 3 and 6 per day...I know not recommended by I guess its a your usauge may vary. Diet Rite with Splenda should be better than drinks containing aspertame.

I think it's one of those mileage may vary things. I've been doing Atkins since September and I've lost about 80 pounds and I'm terrible at drinking my water and would die without my Diet Rite. But there are the people who have problems. Your body will tell you which you are.

Diet Rite has no caffeine and no aspartame but does have citric acid (implicated possibly in some stalls), and Splenda or a reasonable facsimile. Now, Diet Dr. Pepper has no citric acid and there's a no caffeine version available, but it has aspartame.

As to the shadowy claims that diet sodas spike insulin, I'm so tempted to go get a blood glucose meter and see if there's any budge downward at all in my blood sugar after having these... I doubt it as I never feel 'weak' after having them.

Anyone ever tried this?

It is definately a personal thing. I can drink as much diet pop as I want. I typically drink diet pepsi but will drink any diet cola along the way. I suppose I might lose faster if I stopped all together, but I lose fairly fast anyway so why give it up?

I say, like with everything regarding low-carb eating, listen to your own body. It'll tell you if it doesn't want diet pop.

Good luck!

so splenda only has carbs if it's the kind you put in yourself?
cuz I know one packet is supposed to be equal to 1 carb, so I was wondering how much splenda actually gets put in to the crystal clear flavored water I've been drinking

I guess it really depends on which plan you adhere to.

On Atkins, the mantra in induction is "no more than 3 packets of Splenda per day, and remember to count your diet soft drinks as part of those three packets."

Having said that, I only drink about a can of Waist Watchers per day....two if I feel like it. As I see it, it's FAR better than drinking a Pepsi at 41g per can!!!
