Default How Much Fat?

I am going to be starting the induction stage of Atkins very soon. One question I have. How much fat should I be eating a day? I have been reading if you don't have enough fat in your diet, you won't lose. And, this seems to be one of the biggest problems people are having

Hi, I have been on induction for about a week. I read on another post that the people who ate more fat , lost the most weight. Did you sign up at fitday? Here is the link to what I ate yesterday . Just go to the date and change it to yesterdays date or whatever date you want http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/Public...?Owner=cincin11 Breakfast: egg salad/2sausages s Lunch: salad/vinegar&oil/2 ham cream cheese rollups/Advant Edge shake/ Snack: Chipped beef/cooked cabbage/spices/soy sauce Dinner:Italian Sausage/onions/green pepper/fried zucchini/spices I changed some of the amounts because fit day does not take out for net carbs. I really had a cup of cabbage. Hope this helps some. Cindy

I forgot I also had a cup of coffee. I guess I screwed up and had too many carbs yesterday. Oh, well. I will be on induction forever.

I know it says that I ate 2 small zucchini, but I really had about 6 slices but couldn't find the right amount of carbs. The Atkins website had a value of 1 gram of carbs and that s the only way I could get 1 gm to show up on fitday.

Rick-

Most people here will tell you that the ratios of fat/protein/carbs that seems to work for them is 65-70/20-25/5-10. I actually don't keep track of how many fat grams a day I eat-but I try to keep my ratios pretty close to that. One reason I like fitday.com is that is makes tracking those ratios easier for me.

Default too much fat?

I find that it is difficult for me to keep fats under 70%....I am usually at 75%....today I have gone to 80%.

Can someone tell me if that is incredibly bad?

Just make sure that you eat plenty of healthy, low carbs firs, like salads and veggies. Sometimes if you eat too much fat, you aren't hungry for the good carbs.

Thanks for bringing this up, RickinTN.

Here's my average over the past 6 days since starting (from fitday.com). Should I be increasing my fats? What kind of fats should I increase?
Fat = 58%
Carbs = 5%
Protein = 34%
Alchohol = 0%

Fat breaks down into the following:
Sat = 24%
Poly = 5%
Mono = 22%

Strange, the numbers don't really add up... but I assume that's round off error?

Hiya all;

I am on Day 7 of Induction...and all my days, I have made it a point to make fat be at 70% to 75%.

I use Fitday.com

I simply enter the foods in, and the graph and chart show me the numbers. I recommend it highly.

Basically...the number of grams of fat is not what is important...it is the ratio.

I average 72% Fat/ 26% Protein/ and 2% carbs and my understanding is that THAT is great! Calories average around 2500 per day....and don't forget to subtract the fiber from the carb number to get those net carbs! After dinner, I simply look at my carb number and If I need a few more...which I almost always do...I eat something appropriate.

Use fitday.com and you can achieve this balance, with little effort, on a dailey basis. You can "play" with what foods to add and watch the numbers change for you, with one click! Sweet! Then you can plan your menu's in advance also...which makes it easier and less stressful to monitor what you are eating.

Good luck to all and best wishes;
Jake

I have had good success ensuring my fat does not go under 65%. I lose best at about 70-75%, but some days that isn't practical.

I started off higher, but as my appetite and food intake has shrunk I find calories have naturally dropped a bit and fat tends to be more 65-69% now.

Today I am celebrating 30 pounds in just under 3 months. So I ain't complainin'!

Best of luck to you when you start Induction. Just take it day by day. If you don't cheat, before you know it you'll be amazed by how much better you feel and how easy this WOE becomes.

Kaillean.
