Default Carbs in Splenda.....

Someone posted a recipe the other day for homemade jello. In making it, I was trying to divide up the carbs in the 8-10 packets of Splenda that are required.

On the Splenda box, it says that splenda is "less than 1 carb" per teaspoon. I figured it as .75 gram carb per teaspoon as my understanding is that if the label says "less than one carb", the count is between 1/2 to 3/4 carb per serving. If this is correct, then this jello works out to 3 carbs for 1/2 cup! That can't be right, can it??

Oops, I goofed....I think it's more like 1 1/2 carbs per 1/2 cup of the prepared jello. Still, I think that's too many carbs considering that Jello Brand SF jello is 0 carbs. Has anyone else who has made this jello figured the carbs? And, am I figuring right on Splenda at about .75 (3/4) of a carb per tsp?

Thanks all!!!

Granular Splenda in the box has 24 grams of carb per cup, or roughly 0.5 grams of carb per teaspoon or 1.5 grams of carb per tablespoon, 6 grams of carb per 1/4 cup, etc...
It's not the Splenda that actually has the carbs, it's the filler that they put in the box with the Splenda to give it the same volume cup for cup as sugar.

I used the Crystal Light in the bottles (not the powder, it contains aspartame) and unflavored gelatin. It was great!

Well, the reason for Splenda Jello in the first place is that some people have major problems with aspartame including cravings and stalls. Dr. A says to avoid it, and those of us (like me) who have bad reactions to it try to.

That being said, I like homemade jell-o because I have more control over flavoring and sweetness. Yum!

Crystal Light in the bottles (found on the juice isle) is made with Splenda, only the powder type contains aspartame.

Join the bandwagon to email the company and request that they make liquid splenda available to consumers again. It has zero carbs

L (who is dying of curiosity to see what Peter Jennings has to say about Atkins tonight. Critical news can't be good, but I don't care what he says...no way I'm giving it up!)

Yes, liquid splenda would make this conversation irrelevant. I signed that petition. Why are we not allowed liquid splenda?!

Hey You Guys

Check This Out

www.fiberfit.com

It's a fiber supplement sweetened with liquid splenda. I use it as my sweetener and I am also adding more fiber to my food. It has NO carbs.

See Ya

I was at Kroger today and found liquid stevia. Anyone know anything about it??? A friend raves about it and says it actually helps the stomach and is good for you...something about being friendly to the system.

Any knowledge on this?

I've used Stevia. It's not really all that sweet to me.

Stevia is great...I use the Pure Extract Powder, which has no fillers. Read the label and look for powders with No Fillers. Cellulose fillers will also do as they count as dietary fiber. FOS and Erythritol (two other common fillers) are not supposed to be absorbed or raise blood sugar...I will believe it when I see some real proof...especially considering that Erythritol is a Sugar Alcohol. Avoid anything using Maltodextrin. Maltodextrin is corn sugar. I have never seen a Stevia made with Dextrose (Glycemic Index: 100), but a few use Maltodextrin (Glycemic Index: 105).

I notice that recipes using Stevia list an amount of Stevia that is too small. Many of the authors have been using Stevia for a long time and thus don't need as much to satisfy their sweet tooth. Use 1 teaspoon Pure Stevia Extract Powder for each cup of Sugar and you should be fine. Pure means no fillers. Extract Powder is a fine white powder that should be 80-90%+ Stevioside and have a serving size of 28mg or less. Read the label before buying Stevia.
