Hi Cindy,

Well the short answer is yes, you can.

But the long answer says it's up to you. You have chosen to follow your own plan, so you can have whatever you permit yourself! I don't mean to be rude, and I'm sorry if it sounds that way, but if your plan is "your own" it's a bit odd for you to be asking what you can eat.

I would strongly suggest you follow one of the published and proven plans at least until you are more familiar with what works and what doesn't.

If you look to the right of your screen, you'll see, under "Quick Links," "Which low carb plan is right for me?" Have a look through and choose the plan which will suit your lifestyle for the long term. I would then suggest you buy the appropriate book and read it well.

All the best to you.

Rosebud

Thanks all!!! Guess I should clarify that I am doing my own low carb plan, probably more reflects Atkins but I am finding something that works for me. Last time I did Atkins my blood pressure went really low and I have congestive heart failure so it was not a good idea. So I am going a little higher on the carbs this time albeit my weight loss will be slower but I have to adapt it to my heart disease.
Thanks so much!
Oh, I do think Best Foods is the same brand as Hellmann's? Not quite sure.

Sarah, Dr Atkins suggests any mayo, or other salad dressing, with less than 2g carbs per serve is okay. So it's pretty much a matter of reading labels and choosing the one withe lowest carb count.

Hi, have you checked out the Schwarzbein Principle? That is the one that I'm kinda sorta trying to follow. I love my carbs so much that I know I wouldn't last long on Atkins. And if I lose just 2 pounds a month doing TSP I'll be content. Good luck with whatever method you end up with!

Hellman's and Best Foods are one and the same Just depends on the region of the country you're in what label it'll have. Here in Canada, it's called Hellman's by Best Foods

I am reading about that plan now and checking out others too. I love carbs too but I am finding I am not craving them as much as I did a few days ago. And it is so funny I am eating all this meat, never was a fan of meat at all! I think after I lose the weight I will do the vegan thing, gosh this meat all the time is just...well grosses me out but I am forcing myself. I can handle beef, chicken and eggs but I hate shrimp, pork, tuna, etc. I am looking forward to nuts and berries!
Thanks so much, best of luck to you too!

Why do you say Hellmans is best?
Kraft has NO carbs in it while Hellmans has a like 2 or 3.

Why does that make Hellmans better?

"Helman's" and "Best Foods" are two names for the same company. So there mayo is the same, just two different packagings. The best mayo is homemade, but who has time?

Which krafts as no carbs in it? The ones I've seen have a bit more sugar in it that would raise the carbs.

Always be aware that things that say 0 carbs per serving means that it can be up to .9 carbs per serving.

I usually round up to be sure.

stevensond,

I think people may be referring to the taste when they say Hellman's/Best Food's is "best." Cook's Illustrated magazine agrees; they recently did a blind taste test of many mayos and Hellman's came out on top in all categories.

I thought you were referring to carbs. I never thought about taste!

I get the real Mayo from Kraft. I checked my book.

Hellmans 1T=0.1 carbs
Kraft 1T=0.0

pretty close
I just have always used Kraft
maybe I will try Hellmans

so you guys think it is better?

I use 2 cans of tuna, cubed dill and real mayo to make my tuna salad. =0 carbs
