Default apple juice with water?

Hi!

My name is Cassandra, I´m from Germany and I just read the german version of "The new Atkins Diet" and I´ll start tomorrow. Unfortunately out here in Germany we don´t have ANY low carb products, which could make life easier so I guess I´ll have to eat by the book....

I have a question regarding Atkins and drinking: water ok, I love to drink an applejuice/water mix, which is very popular here in Germany. It´s actually 1/3 sugar free apple juice and 2/3 water.

Can I stick to that during Atkins? As a former Diet-Coke junkie, this mix really helped me get away from diet coke, after having read a horrorfiying article about aspertam...

Thanks
Love
Cat

Actually - be glad for that! Without the army of fake foods you will most certainly do better. I live in Germany too and have no problems at all. No fake foods = no cravings.
Doing it by the book is a key in the first months, in my opinion.
I really don't know about the apple juice or what kind of sweetener is used in it. I'd say don't drink it during induction...which is a pure detox period.
I wish you best of luck!!!
Mach's gut!

Hallo!

Nochmals vielen Dank

Liebe Grüße aus Hamburg

Hi Cat!

Apple juice has about 30 grams of carb per 8 fluid ounces and would be high glycemic as well. Even at 1/3 juice to 2/3 water, that would still be in the range of 10 grams of carb per 8 fluid ounces...too high for induction.
Best to stick with water and other low carb/sugar free drinks.

Hallo Cat!

just in case, you would like to know, here are the receipies for protein bread and pancakes (both ok for induction as well as atkins in general! and according to the book they make the perfect substitute for bread and you can use the pancakes for pizza and other stuff!

protein bread

3 eggs, egg yolk and egg white seperated,
2 tablespoons sour cream
2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup soya powder
1 tablespoon baking powder

stoke the oven to 170 C. Mix the egg yolks with all other ingredients. Beat the egg wihtes untill they are stiff and afterwards mix them with the rest. Fill the mixture into a buttered baking tin and bake the bread for 50 minutes until it´s golden brown!

Carbohydrates for the enire loaf: 18g

Base receipe for pancakes

6 portions

1/2 cup of soya powder
3 eggs
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
oil

Mix the first four ingredients with a mixer. Heat the oil in a big pan. When the oil is really hot, fill 3 teaspoons of dough into the pan and make pancakes!

They are a good base for pizza, canelloni, Lasagne and wraps.

Carbohydrates for all six pancakes: 12 g
Carbohydrates for 1 pancake: 2g

Hallo,

Love
Alina
