That's where a microwave comes in handy. Seafood, on the other hand, defrosts very fast, without a microwave. Most of the time you don't even need to defrost it as you can cook it from a frozen state. Meat can be partially defrosted and cooked. Only thing I would plan ahead is a whole roast or chicken. But then, you don't get whole chicken from cans
