Default nut question

haven't been eating any due to chewing problems and a past experience with diverticultis which I hope to never repeat.
Was thinking of grinding some nuts up and was looking at Dr. Atkin's book and items in store when I realized my favorite nut, cashews, is not listed in Dr. Atkin's book. Neither were peanuts unless I read it wrong.
Any reason why cashews would be left out completely? Even if they have more natural sugar or carbs you'd think some quantity would be permitted at some point?
And please tell me how anything that tastes as dreadful as Brussel Sprouts could possibly have so many carbs in it?????????????

HI
Cashews are the highest in carbs of all the nuts. They happen to be my favorite too! Bummer, huh? As for peanuts, they aren't included since they are not nuts at all. They are legumes (like beans) and those aren't allowed in the first few stages of Atkins at all.
I looked up brussels sprouts on fitday and here's what I found for frozen, boiled 1 cup serving -
12.9 carbs, but you have to subtract the fiber, which is 6.35 grams, leaving net carbs at only 6.55....not so bad.

Good low carb (higher in fiber) nuts are macadamian, pecans, walnuts and almonds.

Dr. Atkins does mention cashews, but cautions that they are also legumes. Which is why they are higher carb. Durn burn it!
I cannot be moderate about them unless the "small child's fistful" Dr. Atkins mentioned as a good portion size is actually in the small child's fist and they are running away from me.

basically just starting. Have read several articles, books and still a bit confused.. I was on the atkins last year and only lost 8 lbs..
Started this last month- Oct. and have been doing the Curves diet. But confused with that cause I now have read 3 books and all the diets are different.....? but I am doing well and have lost12 with that.. Now, for the question.. cheese.. how much to eat or not to eat.. It's a quick fix in times of hunger/fustration. but can you eat to much.. I am still staying 20 grams or so.. because with Curves the many of the veggies are free(?), Any advice is greatfully accepted.

During induction 3-4 servings only.

Cheese or dairy is known to stall some people too, so that maybe what was happening to you?

I guess you learn something every day! I did not know that peanuts were not allowed.. I treat myself to a one ounce package of the dry roasted peanuts every so often, as well as a Tbs or two of natural peanut butter a couple of times a week. I must have overlooked this when I read the book..

It is allowed past induction it is just higher in carbs. If you count them, still eat your veggies and are losing... don't sweat it.

Ahhhhh... see now, that's what I thought, but when I read that they were not allowed in the first few stages of Atkins, I was confused. Thank you for clarifying that for me
