Angry Good cholesterol down!

I had my cholesterol levels checked back in May. Results were:

Total=245
HDL=91
LDL=146
T=38

I had it re-checked this month and my results are:

Total=214
HDL=78
LDL=125
T=52

I read some other posts about this subject but am still confused. Why would my triglycerides go up? Why did my good cholesterol go down? I ate more carbs in May than I do now. Should I up them or be content that my bad cholesterol came down?

hi there,

HDL over 40 is desirable, over 60 is protective against heart disease even in the presence of high LDL, which yours is not. It's likely that the HDL came down in response to the drop in total cholesterol.

Triglycerides .. anything below 150 is good. Modest day to day fluctuations in tg levels are normal, and although the sample was taken after you'd been fasting, there is a possibility that what you ate the day before had some influence. For instance, if you ate low fat, or had more carbs .. especially fruit or fructose which will elevate tg's.

Bottom line .. your numbers are great, congratulations.
