Default Grocery Shopping

Hello!

I'm a college student who did Atkins for a little while and had to go off of it for my summer job. It worked really well while I lived at home and went to a community college since I was able to cook for myself all the time. The thing is now I'm at school and a resident and have limited things availible to me. Limited fridge space of course and other problems. Besides a George Foreman Grill and a few reusable containers I have nothing to cook with. I'm thinking about pricing baking sheets and pans but it might be too much right now. Anyway to be able to stick with this I need to have dessert type foods on hand and choices as to what I can eat normally. Any suggestions for convenience foods or something that is delicious and can be eaten on induction is appreciated.

So far on my grocery list.

Atkins bars
Atkins ketchup
Splenda
frozen hamburgers
butter
cream cheese
Portobello mushrooms
Garlic seasoning
Cinnamin
Shredded mozzerella
eggs
sausage
Already cooked chicken breast

What kind of shakes do you all find to be the best? Also where can I find the best deals? Right now the closest Grocery store to me is Trader Joe's and I was wondering if anyone knows anything about their selection with low carb foods.

Anyway thanks bunches.

Hi there!

Just for a forewarning, I might reconsider the atkins bars if I were you. For many people, they can stall or slow down your weight loss. I might stay away from those the first two weeks and then after that you can test your body and see how they react to those bars. that way you can lose as much as possible those first two weeks!

Good luck!

by the way those bars are pricey anyways and will save you some good money that you'll need for college

Hmm, I don't see any veggies on your list. For saving space and preparation keep some bags of salad on hand and a good bottle of LC dressing (I like Marie's).
Pre-cut celery sticks. Broccoli and cauliflower florettes.
Do you have a microwave? Frozen veggies (broccoli, spinach, etc)
Fresh deli meats and cheeses. You can roll up turkey and cheese with some mayo and lettuce or sprouts. Or roast beef around string cheese.

Hmmm... what else? I feel your pain, when I was living in a dorm I ate chicken nuggets and Ramen. Ugh. Good luck!

Trader Joe's has all organic food I believe. Lots of soy products, fresh fruit, there is some low carb bread. If you look carefully you might find a few great low carb items. But they are more geared towards organic food rather than low carb food.

How about getting a crock pot? Or a hot pot? (however you call it.. you can boil veggies or a hot dog or eggs in there).

I buy the Atkins bars all the time. They are a perfect on the go meal. With 2 kids & a demanding full-time job, I need them. I don't believe they have slowed me down. I've lost 41 pounds since May 1st...which I think is pretty good. But maybe I could have lost more - who knows?

You should definately add some veggies. They provide fiber & they fill you up. Good-luck!!!

I didn't put any veggies on the list because generally I filch the dining hall's veggies and it's easier to do that than buy them. :X I just bring a baggie or tupperware container and fill it with broccolli or something.

I know how ya feel. well not really, but I just graduated from college and so i know how hard it is to control your eating when you live in the dorms. I had a hard time doing it even while i was in an apartment. I didnt have much money and was cheap... Budget Gormets were my staple food item. Anyway, now that im done with college i figured its finally time for me to take something seriously and do something about my weight. I probably gained 40 pounds in college. YIKES!!

Anyway... I admire you for hitting it head on! The hardest part for me was hanging out with people, at they were eating, or making fast food runs, and of course this is late at night.. its so social to eat... But looking back, i could have done so much better, i was just lazy!

Anyway.. GOOD LUCK!!!! and good luck with school! Its a great feeling to get that degree!

Good job getting veggies from the dining hall. Yeah, much easier than buying them. More variety too.

Personally, I could live on burgers, chicken, eggs, and cream cheese for my groceries with salads and veggies from the cafeteria. Frozen buffalo wings are also good for the end of long days. TGI Friday's brand has no sugar or breading. Paired with celery and blue cheese dressing. Yum.

Good luck. I wish I had known about Atkins when I was in school. I gained all the weight I've lost on it in those first two years!
