Default deep fried fish

First, I hope this is not a repeat post, and I hope it's in the right place.

Tonight, for the third time, I am making deep-fried fish. This is something I normally do with catfish breaded in a cornmeal/cornstarch mixture. My kids love it, but my husband can't stand it, so we usually have it when he's out of town.

Just for the heck of it, I decided to try deep-frying a few pieces with no cornmeal, a couple of months ago when I first started this LC diet. Turns out, it comes out with a crispy crust which is nearly indistinguishable, to me, from the cornmeal. Even my kids don't care if the cornmeal is missing, which is near sacrilege where I hail from.

I live in MI, now, and there is a locally-made concoction called Clancy's Fancy. It's a sweet hot sauce, has molasses in it, so it probably has some carbs. About 1 tsp of this in 1/3 cup of mayonnaise makes an excellent dipping sauce for breadless deep-fried fish.

Thanks, Moth, for posting this. I've been wondering if it would work to deep fry fish without breading. I will try it. That's the only way I like fish.

Hurray! I am glad that someone will get some use out of this!

Honestly, I LOVE this. It's a wonderful variety after eggs and cheese.

Also, try adding just a dribble of malt vinegar to the hot sauce & mayo concoction, if you try that part. I did that last night, and it was Just Swell.

Thanks Erin!

I have been 'breading' my fish with a parmesan and almond flour mixture, but sometimes it comes off. I never thought in a million years to deep fry it without breading. You are a genious. I'll have to try your sauce recipe too. We make our own tartar with mayo, vinegar, dill relish, and splenda.

Thanks again!!!
