Default Can we talk about yogurt (again)

Searched the shelves at our local store for a brand I thought I could have - without much luck.

I did find one brand that said it had 8 cultures - so I knew that was good.

The brand is Cascade Fresh (fat free). It says it is fruit juice sweetened. Carb count is listed as 20, no fiber and sugar is 16.

Ingredients say (in very small letters I might add )
grade A pasturixed nonfat milk, fruit juice concentrate, raspberries, tapioca, pectin, natural flavor, red "something" for color and cultures.

So is this brand OK?

while the raspberries may be okay, they do add carbs. The fruit juice concentrate and tapioca are things that you definitely do not want (sugars and starches). "Natural flavor" could also include things like sugar or honey (hey, they're both "natural" but not low carb).
What you want is full fat (also called whole milk or cream top) unflavored yogurt. I've seen it in a couple of grocery stores where I live, but I'm always guaranteed to find it at my local health food store. You can add the fruit and sweeteners yourself and then you'll know exactly what's in it. Keep looking!

Hi CharM,

I'm in Washington too. I am usually able to find plain, full fat Mountain High yogurt at Fred Meyer...and I seem to remember finding it at an IGA in eastern WA too. The last time I bought yogurt though was at Trader Joe's. I think it's called Trader Joe's cream-line yogurt. I like the Mountain High better--its not separated out like the Trader Joe's and it doesn't have the strange acrid flavor the Trader Joe's has.

Good luck finding good yogurt...I've accidentally got the wrong kind several times, the mountain high yogurt containers are all blue and white and I get in a hurry and don't read carefully!

Default yogurt ... once again

I know that this has been mentioned somewhere before, but I just can't seem to find it. Are we allowed yogurt on Atkins? Induction??? I have an old Atkins book and I don't think it was allowed, at least at the writing of that book.
Thanks

Yogurt Exception Explained ... Decide for Yourself

As for Induction, the rules are the rules. During your OWL phase you custom design it, so you are only a few weeks away from adding in yogurt if you want it.

Dr. Atkins, in his books at least, seems to be clueless - he lists a 1/2 cup of yogurt in the 5g of carbs list in Atkins for Life. You might want to check the center's website

i have found a couple of brands of plain yogurt in the safeways here in oregon. they are usually in the big containers, not the little ones. the cascade fresh brand does come in plain with no sweeteners. also found there is also the mountain high brand and one called stonyfield farms. they area all a little different tasting, but none bad so far.

hope this helps.

Looks like I need to head to town, and check our Safeway.
Thank you.

I was able to find Dannon regular plain in the large container at Safeway. They also carry Pavel's Original Russian yougurt in the organic section. Pavel's has 10g of carbs and the following ingredients: grade A pasterurized whole milk, living yogurt cultures, vitamin D3. It has slightly different taste than the regular Dannon, but it has less carbs and it tastes pretty good plain or with some SF jam.
