Default Hello, I'm new!

Thanks for the great welcome. I am looking forward to getting to
know everyone.

I started the atkins diet yesterday and I am looking to lose 35lbs b4 July I would realy appreciate any help or advice you could share to keep me on track as I easy get distracted!

My hubbie is doing this with me so hopefully it will be easier than other diets I have tried !!

We have the atkins book and carb counter. Hubbie seem to think it is ok to have alcohol as long as low carb, can this be correct. I am unsure and am not bothered about alcohol for everyday use but I am suppose to be going for a night out with friends. I will eat at home, but will it be OK to drink wine/gin & tonic with them

Thanks for listening and take care!

Karen x

Dear Karen,

welcome to the forum and to lowcarbing!
You will most certainly find great info and support here.
To answer one of your questions: no alcohol is allowed on Induction, the first and VERY important part of Atkins. Later alcohol is to be used with moderation, we should avoid sweet alcohols above all. Believe me, doing the induction right is crucial, many veterans and experts here are talking about a "golden shot", meaning: do it right the first time, next time it might not be so easy.
I personally find that I simply cannot drink as much as I once could. After 5 medium glasses of white, dry wine I got really sick despite drinking oceans of water. Just wanted to warn you, I don't wish feeling that sick to anyone! Luckily, 2-3 glasses seem Ok to me now.
Please, check out the links below and consider using Fitday.com to calculate your foods, this is a great help!
I wish you all the best, great success!
Alina

Yep, no alcohol on Induction--look up in book for more info.

One thing that I would like to point out (to save you the frustration I have experienced) is that LC products and artificial sweeteners have been the bane of my LC existance. I would recommend that you avoid them like the plague, even tho they are okay'd by Dr. Atkins. That is just my experience and my opinion, you can take it or leave it. But, it seems that the majority of people on the forum stall in weightloss when eating sugar free/art. sweetened products.

HTH,

N.
