Default Food thoughts

I have been reading a lot of the posts and for the first time in a long time I feel a connection to people who really understand what it means to face the fact that I have a 100+ poounds to lose.

I wish I didn't think about food all the time but it does seem to occupy my mind a lot. Have any of you run into this? The first thing I think of in the morning is what am I going to have for breakfast and the food thoughts just keep popping in all day. I would sure love to be able to turn them off. I have friends who forget to eat - something I can't fathom - am I alone in these thoughts?

A little Star Trek reference - Sometimes I feel like am being assimilated by the acarb "borg" and my resistence is futile.

I've gotten a good start but afraid I will sabatoge myself.

Don't be afraid of making a mistake. You might from time to time. Noone here has been perfect. It's a journey, and we might have a break down from time to time, but for now.....you're doing your plan and you're doing great. That's all you need to worry about.

Come here when you need encouragement. I guarantee you will get it. We're all here to help each other.

Just do what you're doing and leave the fear behind.

Default It'll change eventually....

Hey! Don't fret, it will change, or at least it has for me. My mom and my bro both forget to eat quite often. Me on the other hand have always had to force myself to stop eating. Always planning my next meal as I was eating my current one. (thankfullly, my dad was the same as me or I would have felt like an outcast in my own home! )

However, thankfully, after eight weeks on Atkins, I have found that while I do look forward to some meals, eating others has become a chore. It is JUST food, which I have never really understood before. While it might be a very tasty meal, I am eating to fuel my body, not purely as a source of pleasure. For example, sometimes I am just not hungry and don't want to eat before a workout, but I KNOW that I have to have at least 15 grams of protein in me or I will be too fatigued to finish. It is more (or less) than food at this point, it is fuel. Give it some time, and I think you will find that while eating this way is certainly pleasurable with steak, butter, etc. it is also very effective in changing your relationship with food! Completely for the better!

Does that make any sense??? Can someone help me explain it better if it is not clear??? (crystal clear to me of course!!!! )

Amy and Deb,
Thanks for the encouragement - it does help to be able to reach out and "talk" to folks going through the same thing. My husband is not on any type of diet and last night he brough home a package of cheese danish from Costco. So far they are not calling to me and I think I will be able to leave them alone. I couldn't believe he did this - I realize it is a form of sabatoge - just not sure why. On well, we will have to talk it out.

I hope the food thoughts do slow down - but I have a low carb cookbook so when I really start thinking about carbs - I begin to read receipes and realize I have lots and lots of choices.

Hope you are doing well and have a great day

Pat
