Default Staring 4th week

Started Jan 4th, and have followed Atkins to the letter. Starting today I will increase to 30 Carbs a day and have so far lost 14lbs and feel great. Last week I was mostly between 20 and 25 each day. Saturday I was probably closer to 30. I have roughly figured the amount of calories and it is approx 2000 per day, give or take a couple hundred. It seems to me that if I consumed 2000 calories per day on any diet plan I am going to lose weight, I am not bashing Atkins, but just curious if I was to just watch my calorie intake would results be the same?
Have no fear, I am going to continue with Atkins as my wife is following it too and enjoying similar results.

Flame Away

It's possible you would lose weight on a high-carb, controlled-calorie diet, sure. But for many of us, it didn't work, and that includes me.

Also, if you were eating lots of carbs and 2000 calories/day, you'd probably find yourself hungry a lot, which you aren't on Atkins. And that's the thing I really, really like about this Way of Eating, is that I am not obsessed with food all the time. Quite the opposite.

I wish continued success to you and your wife!

You are right, I have never tried to lose before this. I can see that I would probably be hungrier more often without Atkins.
One thing that I have learned from reading the book and doing Atkins is that I am really in tune with my body as far as blood sugar levels go, at least I think that is what it is. Before starting Atkins, I would sometimes get the shakes, and be so hungry sometimes, usually late in the morning, this was after a breakfast of two slices of toast with PB&J and a glass of milk or juice. Now I have a two-egg omlett(sp?), two pure pork sausages and a bit of salsa and a big glass of water. No more shakes and starving by 11:00am, pretty cool.

So far so good

Hi

I think that you have inadvertantly answered your own question. You are correct, anyone will lose weight on a low cal diet. The difference here is that this is much easier to adopt as a way of eating for life. That is the problem with low fat or low cal. The weight comes off but do you want to eat that way long term?

The lack of hunger, and food choices are what makes me believe that I can lose and keep it off this time. I wish the same for you!!

Sam
