Question headache and nausea

Hello, I'm new!! And excited to be here. I have been on Dr. Atkins for3 days and I have had a horriffic headache and nausea. I see that the headache is normal. What about the nausea? I thought when I started I could live off eggs, now I can't stand to look at one.. Is this going to get better?

I also noticed that some people are using artificial sweetners other than splenda. Is that allowed on other low carb diets? And is diet pop allowed on other diets? This is a great forum. Dianne

Hiya 4got!

Yes, the nausea is reported every so often... it should clear up in a couple of days at the very most.

For EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about artificial sweetners click here. Aspartame is a highly controversial substance and is discouraged for a long list of reasons....but it's in just about everything that is "sugar-free"! The idea at first is to abstain from artificial sweeteners altogether for the first two weeks so that your "addiction" to sweet things can be broken. After induction you can have artificial sweeteners (in limited amounts) if you use saccharin or sucralose (Splenda).

Diet sodas are not a good idea for a couple of reasons: they don't count toward your water intake goals, they contain caffeine, aspartame and citric acid....none of which are good for people trying to manage their weight .... or anyone, for that matter! Try to rely on water as much as possible. If you absolutely, positively MUST have a diet soda, try to have no more than one a day or every other day.

You might want to check out the "stickie" at the top of the Newbies Questions forum called "HOT LINKS"...... it's full of GREAT information for those just starting out!

We're glad you're here!! Let us know how we can help!!

Don't worry......you'll feel much better in a day or two!!
