Default Carbs vs. Calories (or: Transitonsing from the Zone, part II)

When we last left our heroine, she was wondering if Atkins Induction was necessary , considering the Zone WOE had already banished her cravings and gotten her through withdrawal. As we tune in now, she is sitting at her computer and scratching her head, wondering where all those carbs came from ....

OK folks ... Here it is my second day of this Zone-to-Atkins transition, and after entering today's meals into Fitday, it seems I've consumed 37g of Carbs, and only 1433 calories! Using the 10x rule, I should be right around 2000 calories!

Given the fact that I've probably already consumed more calories today than any recent Zone day, do I need to get those last calories in? I'm already way over in the carb department, and I want to stop eating!

Apart from feeling full, everything else is going well. I feel alert and energetic, and BFL is going well. Fitday has helped me see where the carbs are coming from (no more red peppers in the salad, or lowfat plain yogurt just to finish the container!) and I know where to make adjustments.

Suggestions anyone? Please keep in mind, feeling good is great, but I want to lose inches, too!

You probably don't need to go out of your way to up your calories today - but try to get your calories up at least a bit tomorrow. As for the carbs - if you can continue to make progress at 40g a day (which is not at all unreasonable for many people) then go for it. If you can see see easy and tolerable ways to bring them down - go for it.

Best of Luck to ya!

As William says, if you continue to loose at around 40 carb g, then don't worry.

To up your calories I suggest adding sugar free mayonnaise with your salad, add butter to your vegetables, perhaps have a high fat snack, such as nuts or low carb cheesecake, or add cream or cream cheese. With the latter items, keep a check on the carb content as well.

The idea of keeping the high calorie level is to make your body think there is plenty of food available and not to conserve what it has, as in a famine or restrictive diet. This will lower your metabolism and consequently slow your weight loss.

Having lots of fat and not much carbs means that much of the fat just goes straight through the gut and only what you need is used by the body for repairs and energy. It is highly unlikely to end up as fat on your body, unless you increase the carbs.
